The Iroquois German Club met at the Planters & Commercial Bank on Thursday evening, January 25th, for their annual meeting. The secre tary's report showed that during the year just ended the club had en joyed a membership of twenty-six, and the treasurer's report was very encouraging in that all through the year the dues and assessments had been well taken care of and there was still a good balance in the treas ury to begin the new year with. The affairs of the old year having been disposed of the president de clared that the election of officers for the new year was in order, and the following members were chosen unanimously for the respective posi tions: VV. H. McDowell, -President; Ashby W. Dunn, Vice-President; L. L. Cherry, Secretary and Treasurer; W. H. Kitchin. Ball Manager. In addition to these Messrs. Sam Hoff man and Henry Clark were elected to serve with the officers on the directorate, which, under the con stitution of the club governs in all matters except those relating to membership. This begins the fourth year of ihe club since its organization, and dur ing the three years past the club has given seventeen dances, and has en joyed the hospitality of the most charming dance of them all, the one given during the recent holidays by the ladies. All of the dances have been pronounced successes, and con sidering, all the club has been the means of added pleasure to the so cial life of the town. Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Entertain. On Thursday evening, January 25th, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. II. Alexander, on Tenth street, the young ladies entertained the young men at a leap year party from 8:30 to 11:S0. It was one of the most pleasant and enjoyable occa sions of the leap year. The young ladies chose their partners and made engagements with them. However they varied from the leap year scheme and waited at home for their escorts instead of going for them. During the evening every one took part in"'A Shakespearean Romance," a guessing contest. The answers to all the questions were the names of plays written by Shakespeare, mak ing tne thread or a romance when read in their consecutive order. Mit-s Lamb end her partner, Mr. Bry an, were the winners or the prize, a nice box of candy, for having ans wered the most questions correctly. Ice cream, cake and candy were rved by the young'ladies and many merry leap year jests were exchang ed by the couples. JUDGE FOR YOURSELF Which is Better Try an Ex periment or Profit by a Scotland Neck Citizens Ex perience. Something new is an experiment. Must be proved to be as repre sented. The statement of a manufacturer is not convincing proof of merit. But the endorsement of friends is. Now supposing you had a bad back, A Lame, Weak or Aching one, Would you experiment on it? You will read of many so-called cures. Endorsed by strangers from far away places. It's different when the endorse ment comes from home. Easy to prove local testimony. Home endorsement is the proof that backs every box of Doan's Kid ney Pills. Read this case: Mrs. W. S. Bradley, Roanoke street, Scotland Neck, N. C, says: "I have been convinced that Doan's Kidney Pills are a good kidney med icine for they haVe been used in my family with splendid results. Ore of my children had a kidney weak ness and I used Doan's Kidney Pills in this case, getting them at E. T. Whitehead Company's drug store. The results were very satisfactory."
