The details of tlis comprehensive sys tem employed by the department of agriculture m gathering the crop in formation front all over the country are interesting. There are 30,000 township correspondents scattered all over the Union, whose duty it is to go carefully over the territory and submit ea-. h month concrete information as to the condition of all kinds of crops. In addition to this branch, 3,000 "county correspondents'' send in separate re ports from those of the township men. A state silent makes a further report direct from his agents, and an organ ization in direct communication with the department, comprising seventeen traveling "held agents," go about the country and make separate reports for groups of states. Special cotton cor respondents are also employed to fur nish accurate information concerning the cotton yield. Five different reports are sent to Washington each month by five different sets of correspondents. This safeguards the government crop reports for accuracy in local crop re ports and keeps the great crop account and cost estimates for the millions of American farmers. These records are sent to the agricultural department. Of ficials of the bureau of statistics and a board go over all the five reports from five distinct groups of correspondents, and from all the figures a crop report estimate is distributed to 70,000 post offlces throughout the country every month. BROWNIES Frankly, the original Brownie idea was to make a small camera on the Kodak prin ciple that would teach the youngsters to take pictures. This meant making many cameras and making them simply, but mak ing them so good that their owners would be enthusiastic. The first Brownie made 2x2 pic tures and sold for a dollar. It was made so well that the inevitable happened. Other and bigger Brownies for bigger people sim ply had to follow. They are made in th Kodak factories under Kodak superintend ence by Kodak workmen.
