Glorious Democratic News. The State election in Vermont which was held last week, has great ly increased the very high hopes of the Democrats for victory this fall. It has demonstrated one point in particular, which is of vital conse quence to the democracy, and that is, the source from which Roosevelt draws his support, and this election has demonstrated that every Demo crat in the State of Vermont voted the Democratic ticket and that Roosevelt polled a little over one third of the Republican vote. The normal Democratic vote in Vermont is about 16,000 and the normal Re publican vote is about 40,000, and Roosevelt polled 15,800, the regular Republican 26,000 and the Demo cratic candidate for governor 20,350. This shows that not only did every Democrat stand true to his party hut that many Republican first vot ers have evidently left the Republi can party in disgust and have now allied themselves with the Demo crats. This election shows that Roose velt and Taft will split the Republi can vote in too in every state in the union, and that the Democratic par ty is united. It is not only possible, but very probable that Woodrow Wilson will carry about 40 states out of the total 48 in the union. However, the Democrats must keep up their campaigning and not permit the battle to lag through over confidence. Standpatism is sinking Taft like a millstone and Teddy is soaked in Standard Oil to the neck. Washington Correspond ence. fs-'.r-t fr. . K ailing, take Dr. King's New Life Pd's fcr quick results. Easy, safe, sure, and only 25 cents at E. T. Whitehead Company's. It is the general opinion of those who travel in different sections of this state that Mr. Kitchin is gain ing ground every day. The fact that all the near republican papers and the former luke-warm demo cratic papers are having fits and pushing Senator Simmons to the front and are bolstering him up as best they can, only adds confirma tion to the charges that he has left his first principles and gone oyer to the special interest. The only thing that Senator Simmons has left to identify him with the grand old party and the principles of Vance and Jarvis, is his party service of twelve years ago, and he has been repaid for this by having been honored with two terms as senator As Mr. Bryan says, the day has come when North Carolina can no longer follow Senator Simmons, and the handwriting is already tracing his sentence on the wall.
