The Tsrboro high school base ball team defeated Scotland Neck team in Tarboro last Friday by the score of 11 to 2. The meet ing is public and our people are cor dially invited to be present. The next base ball game on the local diamond will be played on Fri day the 11th, with the Weldon High School, game oalled at 3:30 o'clock. There are eleven boys' corn cluba enrolled for Halifax county this year. While this is better than none yet there ought to be one hundred or more. Mr. Chas. B. Magee and Miss Ger- sie May Elmore, both of Virginia, were married at the Roanoke Hotel in Halifax Monday, Justice D. E. Stainback officiating. The board of education was in regular session at Halifax Monday. There were present Dr. J. A Collins. W. Neville, Mr. W. P. White having resigned since the last meeting, Mr. V. T. Whitehead, of Enfie!d, was eieciea to nn me vacancy. JNo ap portionment was made. Mr. George H. Kirkland. who lives on the Leggett farm, near Speeds, tells us of a very destructive fire at his home Friday, that de stroyed one of hU barns that con tained forty barrels of corn, all the farm tools of a seven horse farm, j.nd but for hard work his stables and team would have been destroy ed. The loss is between $400 and $500 with no insurance. The origin jf the fire is unknown, but must nave been incendiary. PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS. C, is here on a visit to her sister, Mrs. D. E. Taylor. Rev. and Mrs. Francis Joyner, of Littleton, were here this week to visit their son, Mr. W. F. Joyner. Ex-Governor W. W. Kitchin, of Raleigh, spent from Saturday until Monday here with relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. John D. Perry re turned to Winston-Salem Monday after a visit to relatives here for several weeks. Mrs. David N. Allsbrook, who has been here some time on a visit to Mr. and Mrs. B. I. Allsbrook, has re turned to her home in Portsmouth. Mrs. E. W. Staton and little Mar- garette, Mrs. Thomas Staton and son, Harvey, spent from Friday until Monday with their sister, Mrs. J. C. Tillery, near Rocky Mount. Council, of Oak City, Sunday afternoon at four o'clock at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Nora Walston, the ceremony being performed by Rev. N. C. Yearby, pastor of the Methodist church. Immediately after the marriage the happy couple hurried away on an automobile for Oak City where they were given a splendid reception by Mr. and Mrs J. W. Hines. The bride is a popular daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hassell Bell, who live a few miles in the country, and the groom is one oi Martin county s most prosperous and progressive young farmers. 'Accompanying the groom from Oak City were Messrs S. W. Casper, J. W. Hines and W. W. Casper. Sack Parly t fijullcns. The Halifax Ccuaty Teachers As sociation will hold its last meeting for this scholastic year in the graded school auditorium here Friday, April 11th. Dr. Harrison has asked the Scotland Neck graded school to demonstrate the teaching of certain subjects and these subjects have been assigned to teachers who will give the demonstrations in their srrade rooms with their own pupils Friday morning. The meeting will open with chapel exercises by the pupils at ten o'clock.' Tha morning hours wiil be given over to the dem onstration work and to anrounce ments by Dr Harrison. Lunch will be served at one o'clock. Immedi ately after lunch, about two o'clock, Prof. C. W. Wilson, of the Teachers' Training School at Greenville will address the teachers of the associa tion. The people of Scotland Neck are cordially invited to attend any and all of these exercise?, J. B.
