Kelford will have a race for mayor and commissioner in the November election. Newcomer Ahmad Vaughan had already filed for mayor dur ing the early part of filing. Now incumbent Bailey N. Parker has filled out paperwork to retain his seat. In addition, all five members of the Kelford Board of Com missioners have filed to retain their seats. They include John “Timmy” Eaton, James H. Bland Jr., Wayne Bland, Jim T. Harrell and Wade “Tim” Emory. Two newcomers to the politi cal arena have also filed as Ran dy D. Robtoy and Kenneth Ray Cain have filled out paperwork to seek office. The only other race to devel op thus far is the one for Wind sor Board of Commissioners. See FILING, 10 prescription SUPERINTENDENT TO BE SWORN IN THADD WHITE Bertie Ledger-Advance An attempt to fill a fraudulent prescription landed a man behind bars in Windsor. Windsor Police Chief Justin Jackson said Lt. Frank Ratzlaff said he was called to Pitt man’s Pharmacy after staff members advised a doctor did not pre scribe a medicine called in there. The incident began June 27 when Lt. Rat zlaff was contacted by pharmacy staff and in formed a person had sought to fill a prescrip tion fraudulently. The pharmacy staff had contacted the doctor’s office about the pre scription and deter mined the doctor did not call it in. The person trying to fill the prescription made contact with the pharmacy and was sup posed to pick up the medicine that day, but never showed up. Nearly a week later on July 2, Lt. Ratzlaff was called by Bertie County Central Dispatch and advised the suspect had arrived to pick up the fraudulent prescrip tion. THADD WHITE Bertie Ledger-Advance The Windsor Police Department arrested two men on drug charg es following surveil lance July 2. Windsor Police Chief Justin Jackson said Lt. Frank Ratzlaff and Offi cer Jessie Mizelle were patrolling in town when they observed suspi cious activity in the area of Wall Street and Lee Street. Following a patrol of the area, the of ficers were traveling behind the suspect ve hicle when the opera tor failed to use a turn signal as he made the turn onto Sterlingworth Street. Following a traffic stop, officers had both the driver and passen ger step out of the car and received permis sion to search the ve hicle. The Windsor/Bertie Cham ber of Commerce resched uled the seventh annual Sage Festival, which celebrates the presence of clary sage in Windsor and Bertie County due to rain last month. “We are pleased with the way the Sage Festival plans have come together,” said Windsor/Bertie Chamber Ex ecutive Director Lewis Hog- gard. “We have an excellent local band, incredible spon sors and an excited commu nity. This should be one of our best Sage Festivals yet.” The Sage Festival is planned for a single day this year, as it will open at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 18 and contin ues through 10 p.m. on King St. between Bunn’s BBQ and Southern Bank. The R.T. Johnson Band will be the featured band, as they will take the main stage at 7 p.m. R.T. Johnson got his start singing in church and as his love for country music grew, he began playing bars and special events. Johnson has opened for David Allen Coe, Trick Pony, Black Hawk, Aaron Tippin, John Michael Montgomery, Muscadine Bloodline, Jawga Boys, Parmalee, Confeder ate Railroad and Emerson Drive.
