Huggis, new executive secretary 0f the North Carolina Baptist board, will come tor Frank lin Friday, August 5 to meet with the Baptist leaders of the county at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. -There will be regular services at the Baptist church next -Sunday. The Sunday school will meet at 9 :4S a. m. and the morning wor ship service will 'be at 11. The sermon subject will be one of in terests to all. The B. Y. P. U. will meet at 7 p. m. and the evening worship will be at 8:15. The public is most cordially invited to all these ser vices. The people are urged to rerhem ber the mid-week prayer service. We are having from 75 to 200 in attendance' and a fine spirit. Come and bring a friend. Now Hurry -with the Number 1" STATE NURSE TO HOLD MEETINGS FOR MIDWIVES Mi Fora Ray, state school nurse, is in Macon county making a survey of the midwives here in the interest of better and safer practice on the part of the local workers. In cooperation with Dr. W. A. Rogers, county health of ficer, Miss Ray plans to hold a series of. group meetings for the mfdwives in the county. At these meetings physicians will lecture and demonstrations will be made of how properly to use the necessary equipment. Permits also v will ba renewed at this meeting, Miss Ray stated. She pointed out that the law requires renewal , of permits annually and that new applicants must be1 recommended by a phy sician. Meetings will be -held in the courthouse in Franklin at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, August 5, and in the Highlands public school building at 2:30 p.' m., Fri day, August 12. The class now has 56 members on the roll. How ard Valentine is captain of the reds while Gordon Moore is cap tain of the blues. Roy C. Dady is the teacher. At the end of the contest the losers will give a pic ni to the winners. . At last Sunday's meeting of the Bible class a relief committee com posed of James Drynian, T. W. Angel, Sr., and James A. I'ortcr was appointed. Stiles The Rev. Air. Denny and the Rev. Mr. West have been conduct ing a series of meetings at the Tellico church. The services closed Sunday. About 20 conversions, and renewals of faith and greatly re vived interest in the church were the result of the meeting. The new members will be baptised near the church on the third Sunday ' in August. The Tellico B, Y.P. U. held its regular program last Sunday even ing. Held For Son's Death George Lane, Perquimans farm er, is being held for the murder of his son Woodrow. 17. Lane said he found the boy dead under a fallen tree, but death was found due to a skull blow. An axe was found nearby. The death of Lane's first wife last February is being probed. MARTHA HURST Mrs. Martha Hurst, of Iotla, died at the home of her daughter, Miss Sallie Hurst, at Pine Tree Inn, Sunday morning at 1 o'clock after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held at the Cowee Baptist church Sunday af ternoon at 3 o'clock, with the Rev. W. L. Bradley, of Oak Grove, con ducting the final rites.
