Licenses Revoked
RALEIGH.—North Carolina’s first
drivers’ license law was one year
old Sunday. Since the act became
effective on November 1, 1935, 738,-
800 persons have been issued li
censes permitting them to operate
motor vehicles and 6,426 licenses
have been revoked.
Figures supplied today by the
motor vehicle division showed;
1. One out of every 113 drivers
in North Carolina has had his li
cense Invoked for drunken driving
or some similar offense within the
12-month period.
2. There has ibeen one drivers’
license revocation for each 82 li
censed automobiles in the state.
3. Although 89,969 persons were
licensed for the first time in
North Carolina, only 57,000 were
examined.

BEREA, KY., Nov. 4.—Out of a
total enrollment of 7,708, three stu
dents from Macon county, North
Carolina, are registered at Berea
college.
Miss Virginia Slagle, Franklin,
and Floyd Downs, West’s Mill, are
enrolled in the college departm'cnt.
Robert Arthur, Franklin, is a
student in the junior-high school.

Bennett Elected Senator
Complete returns were not avail
able today from Cherokee, Clay,
Graham and Swain counties, which
with Macon comprise the 33rd state
senatorial district; but on the face
of incomplete returns the election
of Dr. Kelly E. Bennett, Bryson
City druggist, as senator, appeared
certain. Out of 66 precincts, 58
gave him ,263 votes to 7,914 for
McKinley Edwards, Republican.

SEBREN QUARTET COMING
NOVEMBER 15
George W. Sebren and quartet,
of Canton, who broadcast each Fri
day afternoon at 4 o’clock over sta
tion WWNC, Asheville, will be at
the courthouse in Franklin for an
all day singing on Sunday, Novem
ber 15, according to an announce
ment. This will take the place of
the regular fourth Sunday singing
convention of the northern division.
