Timely Farm Questions
Q. Doss warfarin kill mice as
weil as rats?
1
A. Yes. Warfarin .reduces the |
normal clotting ability of the
blood and causes the rodents to i
die by internal bleeding. It is I
equally effective on rats and
mice, but takes a little longer
baiting period to control mice.
The rodents are not killed im
mediately. Waria.in must be I
eaten by a rat or mouse over a
period of days, usually five to
14.
No difficulty whatever is en
countered in getting rodents to
eat warfarin. No pre-baiting is
necessary, and no bait shyness
develops. For best results, shal
low containers should be used.
They should be placed in rat
runways behind boards leaning
against the wall, or near holes
and cracks where rats are
known to go in and out.
Q. How many soil samples
were analyzed in North Caro
lina last year?
A. About 80,000 soil samples
were analyzed in 1950 by the j
soil testing laboratory of the
North Carolina Department of [
Agriculture. In each case farm
ers were given recommendations
on the amount and kind of fer
tilizer and lime to use for spe
cific crops. Incidentally, the fall
months are a good time to have
soil tested, since the laboratory
isn't as rushed then as in the
spring.
