Bryant Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. , < Garden Club Sponsoring Bridge-Canasta Party The Franklin Garden Club will sponsor a bridge and can asta party tomorrow (Friday) night at 8 o'clock in the Frank lin High School cafeteria. Prizes will be given for high, low, and draw for both men and women. HOMECOMING SUNDAY Homecoming will be observed at the Calvary Baptist Church Sunder, it has been announced. Colored Servants To Give Musical HIGHLANDS. ? The annual musical, presented by the col ored servants of Highlands, wll# be held on Sunday evening, August 20, at 8 p. m., in the school auditorium. The program will feature spirituals, gospel songs, and an thems. The program will be under the direction of Carrie R. Smith. Proceeds from the event will go to the Highlands Methodist Church and to the Highlands Community Hospital. Church To Conduct Bible School Here HIGHLANDS. ? The Baptist church will open a daily vaca tion Bible school on Monday, August 22. Classes will be held for nurs ery age through intermediates. The school is under the di rection of the pastor, the Rev. L. Eugene Walter. FOR RECKLESS DRIVING In last week's listing of Su perior Court dispositions, it was reported that Howard Crawford Ledfard was fined $200 and costs for drunk driving and speeding (75 m.p.h. truck) The defendant was charged with drunk driving and speeding, but entered a plea of reckless > driving and was fined $200 and costs. C Youth Leaders Elected To Coordinated Revival Members of the youth coun cil of the First Baptist Church, which will coordinate arrange ments for the youth revival at the church August 21-28, have been elected. They are Bobby Womack, president; Douglas Pearson, vice president; Robbie Gay Tal lent, secretary; Mrs. M. W. Chapman, adult adviser; Mrs. | Howard Barnwell, minister of ' music. Guest preacher for the series is to be the Rev. William Henry Crouch, pastor of the North side Baptist Church in Jackson, Miss. Services are to be held nightly at 8 o'clock. The church choirs will present special mus ic under the direction of Mrs. Barnwell. Committee chairmen working include Mildred Burch, testi mony; Danny Byrd, publicity; James Murray, usher; Ruth Holden, prayer meeting; and Beverly Higdon, contact. Children's Popularity Contest To Feature V? F. W. Production A popularity contest for chil dren up to six years is to be held in connection with the V. F. W.-sponsored production, "Holiday Ahoy". "Holiday Ahoy" is to be given August 25-26 at the East Frank lin School at 8:13 p. m. to raise money for grassing the football field. An all-local cast of between 75 and 100 persons is now rehearsing for the musical review. Jack Ragan will be master of ceremonies and lead roles are being held by Andrew Jones, Howard Barn ard, and Woodrow Shope. Veora Lee, of Bradenton, Fla., is di rector. Commander Zeb Mead ows Is chairman of advance ticket sales. In the popularity contest, three boys and three girls will be picked through penny-a_ vote balloting. Voting jars and pictures of the young contes tants are In business establish ments. The winners will be awarded prizes the 26th as the first act of "Holiday Ahoy". Team Defeats Anderson 7-5 HIGHLANDS. ? In Sunday's game with a team from Ander son, S. C., Highlands came out on top by a score of 7 to 5. Richard Thompson was the winning pitcher. Highlands re ceived 12 hits in the game and Anderson 6. Thompson was the leading hitter for Highlands with three for four, and Dick Rice was second with two for three. An deson didn't score until the 5th inning. On Sunday, August 20, High, lands will play the Seneca All Stars, with the starting time for the game at 2:30. MRS. LEACH DIES AT 85 Widow Of Franklin Man; Services Held Here Tuesday P. M. Mrs. Katherlne Hampton Leach, widow of the late John R. Leach, of Franklin, died Sunday (August 14) In Alexan dria, Va., at the age of 85. She had been 111 only a short time. She was a sister of Mrs. John Wright and Misses Laura and Ida Leach, of Franklin. Funeral services for Mrs. Leach, a native of Oraham County, were conducted Tues_ day afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Franklin Presbyterian Church by the Rev. S. B. Moss, Methodist pastor. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Daughter of the late Wade and Mrs. Sallie McElroy Hamp ton, Mrs. Leach lived In An drews until the death of her husband in ? 1946. She was a member of the Andrews Metho dist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. B. W. Rising, of Winter Park, Fla., two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were William R.
