Peek's Guided Missile Unit In Texas Honored Capt. James E. Peek, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. 8. Peek, of Frank lin, Route 2, is commanding offi cer of a prize guided missile unit at Ft. Bliss, Texas. Officers of the fort decided to establish an award, to be given monthly, for the best-battery size unit at the guided missil center, The award is based on morale, discipline, security-mind e d n e s s, and overall excellence of training and appearance. The first month the award was presented it went to the unit com manded by Captain Peek, "E" Battery of the 2nd Guided Missile Battalion. When inspection teams , had finished checking the units for the second month's award, they again chose Captain Peek's battery. \ The captain is a veteran of 13 years' military service, part of it with the Marines and part with the Army. He has been stationed at Ft. Bliss for the last seven years. He is married to the former Miss Idalene Roberts, of Lowell, N. C. They have two children, a boy and a girl. Holly Springs Committees Are Appointed By MISS MILDRED CORBIN (Community Reporter) Committees were appointed by President W. C. Taylor and a benefit box supper was set for Saturday, January 19, at the Holly Springs Community Develop ment Organization meeting Mon day. Appointed to serve on com mittees for the coming year were: beautification. Wood row Franklin and Dewey Corbin: program, W. Q. (Bill) Crawford; scrapbook, Mrs. Mary Justice; agriculture, all farmers in the community; carpenter committee. Garland Shepherd, Alex Deal, and Jeff Green; ways and means com mittee, Ray Franklin, Earl Justice, Owen Ammons, and Jim Wurst. Mr. Franklin was elected a di rector, to succeed Jack Cabe. He will serve for five years. T. V. A. farmers added to the present list were Mr. Franklin, Mr. Corbin, Mr. Justice, and Charles Ferguson. At the community meeting, Mr. Franklin discussed the subjects talked about at the recent meet ing of the County Council Presi dents in Asheville. Mrs. Gertrude W. Smith and granddaughter, Ila Josephine Wil en, both of Cullowhee, and Miss Rebecca Smith, of Parris Island, S. C? were visiting relatives in the Wesfs Mill community dur ing the holidays. Rufus Morgan spoke on berried shrubs at the January meeting of the Franklin Qarden Club, held Monday after noon In the fecreation room of the Franklin Presybterian Church. Hostesses were Mrs. J. E. 8. Thorpe, Mrs. Allan Brooks, and Mrs. Ted Reber. Hie New Year theme In green and white was carried out In the decorations and refreshments. During the business session re ports were heard by the various committee chairmen. The secre tary was Instructed to send notes of thanks to those who assisted the club In the holiday activities.
