Southern Pines again matched West End’s touchdown as Mat tocks took the kick off to his 24, and then passed to McCall who ran to the visitors’ 15. In two tries Mattocks picked up 8 yards and then McCall on a reverse went over for the tally and the score was 14 to 12 when the con version attempt was blocked. Coming back strong in the sec ond half the Blue and White scored quickly and thereafter were never headed. Blue took the kick off on the 5 and behind some nice blocking came up to the 30. McLeod passed to Har rington on the 40, and Harrington Jateraled to Blue who was bump ed out of bounds on West End’s 10. Harrington took , a pass from Blue for the touchdown. Attempt ed conversion failed again, mak ing the score 18 to 14, West End started another drive, featured by Graham’s 40 yard return of the kick-off to the Southern Pines 32, but lost the ball on downs on the 13. Har rington on an end around play, and Mattocks at right end car ried to the 32, but West End in tercepted McLeod’s paiss on the 37. Amette for Southern Pines reciprocated by intercepting Gra- West End 25. Mattocks and Smith ham’s pass and running to tht made it a first down, and then Mattocks at right end scored. Ar- nette converted and the score was 26 to 14. Southern Pines | The win leaves the locals on top in the Eastern Conference, and there is a strong likelihood that the winners of the Western title will be met here in a play off for the State Championship. The line up: West End took the next kick j southern Pines 46: West End 20: off and, with a brother act of L. Harrington left end Lawhorn Cole passmg to C. Cole, advanced Arne center Blake to the Blue and White 24. From here L. Cole passed to Graham who made a sensational catch for the score, but try for extra points failed and the score was 26 to 20. A beautiful interception by Straka of Cole’s pass on the Sou thern Pines 11 and a run back behind a wall of blockers to the West End 6 resulted in Southern Pines’ fifth marker, with Mat tocks going over from the one foot line. Arnette again converted the extra points to make the store 34 to 20. Another pass in terception by Maples on the West End 36 brought the sixth touch down with running plays carry ing to the 7 and, from here. Blue passing to Smith*for the tally. Conversion failed and the score was 40 to 20. Southern Pines’ final tally 'came when Straka, playing a whale of a defensive game inter cepted Cole’s pass on the Blue and White 26 and raced 54 yards for the touchdown to make the score 46 to 20 when the placement was blocked. Red Cross Report (Continued from Page 1) tance to the veterans and filing claims and to matters pertaining to education and vocational train ing. The work of the Junior Red Cross, directed by Mrs. Hugh Carter of Pinehurst, was notable. A total of 25 white schools and 24 Negro schools were enrolled 100 percent in the Red Cross fund campaign, oversubscribing by more than $200. They collected Christmas presents for men in hospitals, knitted afghans, blan kets and socks, and made clothes to fill overseas Christmas boxes. The work of the local chapter in home nursing under the lead ership of Mrs. W. G. Brown of Carthage; nurse’s aide. Miss Bir- dilia Bair of Southern Pines; mo tor corps. Miss Dencie Trousdell of Southern Pines; Gray ladies, Mrs. Arthur Joistad of Southern Pines; disaster preparedness and relief, J. B. Edwards of Aberdeen, were reviewed by Colonel Hawes. Other activities of the chapter were listed, such as the fund-rais ing campaign, of which A. L. Burney was chairman, and the card of appreciation from the British Red Cross. Thanks to the Southern Pines Pilot and Moore County newspapers for publicity was expressed. Robert E. Harlow moved that the members adopt a resolution expressing appreciation for the faithful services of officers and volunteers of the Moore County Chapter in carrying on the good works for which the organiza tion has long established an out standing record. Such a resolution was adopted and the Secretary was instructed to have it record ed in the minutes of the Chapter, and distributed to the Moore ounty Press. WE HAVE automatic wood-burn ing heaters.
