Southern Pines, is the latest, and probably the best, Danny Kaye comedy—in Technicolor, “The Inspector Gen eral.” In this production Producer Jerry Wald and his associate pro ducer, Sylvia Fine (Kayes wife) prove that they knew just what type of vehicle was needed to show Kaye off to the best advantage. For in “The Inspector General” cne gets the real Kaye, in most of his phases; the clown, the com edian, the tragedian, the singer of specialized songs and the man who has the exceptional ability of handling each situation in his own inimitable way with incotn- parable skill and rare under standing. It is a farce comedy in which Kaye offers something no one will want to miss. Excellent support is furnished by Walter Slazak, Barbara Bates, Gene Lockhart and Elsa Lanches- ter. out to do the town in 24 hours of shore leave. Thpy want girls, of course, and they find them in Vera-Ellen, Betty Garrett and Ann Miller, with whom they go around and on the town in a youthful whirl of song, dance and comedy. They are aided by Leon ard Bernstein’s brightand mod ern music from the stage show of the same title. “On The Town” is now break ing all records at New York City's Music Hall. Sunrise Rod Cameron, a star whose name on a marquee guarantees the best in screen adventure, tops the cast of Republic’s thrilling new saga of the early west, “Brimstone,” coming Sunday and Monday to the Sunrise theatre. Swift and dramatic in its telling of a murderous chapter in the epic Trucolor, is a picture that will please every movie fan who likes fast action, tough talk and tender romance. Starring Cameron, Adrian Booth and Walter Brennan, and produced and directed by Joseph Kane, “Brimstone’ is the story of Pop Courteen and his three ren egade sons. They once had owned the biggest cattle herd in the Ok lahoma territory, but with the coming of small ranchers and homesteaders, their range was cut up and yieir fortune dispersed. Nursing a grudge against the world, the Courteens set out to become the most murderous vil lains ever to ravage, the old west. Cameron, a U. S. Marshal lyho disguises himself as a black-hood ed night rider in, order to accom- nlish his aim, finally brings the Courteens to justice but only after engaging in one of the most ex citing fight sequences ever film ed. Heading the featured cast of ‘‘Brimstone” are Forrest Tucker in the role of the sheriff who plays both ends against the mid dle, Jim Davis, Jack Lambert and James Bro-wn as the three Cour teen brothers, Big Boy Williams, and Jack Holt. Norman S. Hall wrote the original story and Thames Williamson scripted the screenplay. Undoubtedly one of the biggest hits of the year will be ‘‘On The Town” in Technicolor, coming to the Pinehurst theatre Simday night at 8:30. Maybe somewhere and somehow, someone will turn out a better musical. Until that time arrives, “On The Town” will do very nicely. Here is a gay and bubbling show peopled with talented young performers who sing and dance with zest and zeal, and suggest they might have had as joyous a time making the film as the audience has in watching it. The jewel in the crown is New York, which is the town the six principals are on for a frenzied 24 hours.
