Route 1, drunken driving, careless and reckless driving causing accident, pleaded not guilty, found not guUty; Nancy Monroe, Pinehurst, assault with deadly weapon (shoe), pleaded not guilty on grounds of self-de fense, found not guilty, prosecu- cious, costs taxed against Irving Shaw of Pinehurst (who was con victed earlier in court session for disturbing church services etc); Linwood McCrimmon, Vass, bas tardly, pleaded nolo contendere, judgment continued on payment of costs and hospital and other medical expenses for baby and mother ($123.17) and payment to mother or whoever is caring for child of $15 per month ($7.50 every two weeks) until child is 18 years of age; Frank Hale, Win ston-Salem, failure to comply with former judgment of court in non support case, pay costs and $50 payment now due under former judgment, then to continue under former orders of court, commit ment to issue on failure to com ply. Timber Case Unreported from last week’s term of Recorder’s Court is the case in which Will Black and Mel chior Hannah of Jackson. Springs and Norman Hannah of Candor were charged with trespass and cutting and removing timber from another person’s land with intent to convert it to their own inter est. All three defendants pleaded not guilty. Black was found guilty as charged and the two Hannahs were found guilty of aiding and abetting. Black was sentenced to four months in jail—to be served on the roads, if he is found physi cally able—^sentence to be sus pended on payment of $350 fine and one-half the costs, the clerk of court to pay to the owner of the timber, Dougal Sadler, the yalue of timber or pulpwood ($300), this to be paid from the fine. Black entered appeal to Su perior Court and bond was set at $500. The Hannahs were sentenced to 30 days on roads each, sentence suspended on payment of $25 fine each and one-half the costs of the entire case. Announcing * . . That was reveal ed by a special study of student injuries at 11 colleges made by the National Safety Council and the American College Health As sociation and reported in the 1955 edition of the Council’s statistical yearbook, “Accidejit Facts.” The study showed that an average of one out of nine students was in jured during the school year.
