Morgan and Mrs. A. G. Ed- wairds, Jr., went to Raeford Fri day to attend a meeting pf District 9, North Carolina Federation of Women’s Clubs. Gschwind Hostess Mrs. Charles Gschwind was hostess to the Vass Methodist Woman’s Society of Christian Service on Tuesday evening of last week in the fellowship hall of the church. Mrs. Redga 'Thomas presided over the business session and led the opening meditation. Mrs. H. A. Borst led the devo tions and Miss Louise Leslie was in charge of the program, which consisted of a playlet on “Indian Americans” presented by Miss Leslie, Miss Bessie Cameron, Mrs. S. it. Smith, Mrs. W. A. Muse and Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Jr. Two new members were enroll ed; Mrs. Annie B. Gilliland and Mifs. Edgar Mashburn. •The hostess served homemade cocoanut cake and punch. Newcomers Mrs. Pearl StiU of Abbeville, S. C., and Mrs. Marie Stubbs of Hamlet, members of the Green wood School faculty at Lemon Springs moved into Miss Bessie Cameron’s apartment last week. Recent Bride Honored Honoring Mrs. Lewis Foster, who before her recent marriage was Miss Edith Blue, Mrs. Arch Blue, Mrs. Bob Edwards and Mrs. Lewis Frye entertained at a household Shower at the Vass ,Community House Saturday night. Mrs. N. N. McLean and Miss Agnes Smith won prizes in contests. The honoree received many useful gifts from those attending the party and from others who could not be present. The host esses served refreshments. . Guests included Mrs. Foster, Mrs. Charles Cameron, Mrs. J. A. Hudson, Mrs. N. N. .McLean, MiSs Agnes Smith, Mrs. Coyt Hinsley, Mrs. Virgil Willard, Mrs. Randall Cameron, Mrs. Edgar Mashburn, Mrs. George Blue, Miss Carol Fos ter, Mrs. Charlie Foster, and Mrs. Raymond Beasley. Entertains Sisters Mrs. W. D. Matthews of South ern Pines entertained her sisters at dinner at her home on Wed nesday of last week. Together with Mrs. Matthews for the day were Mrs. W. C. Leslie, Mrs. W. B. Graham, Mrs. C. J. Temple, Mrs. H- A. Borst and Mrs. C. L. Tyson. Girl Scout Fund Drive Mrs. N. N. McLean, chairman cf the local Girl Scout fund drive, reports that the quota of $100 was successfully met. The following assisted in the solicitation of funds: Mrs. W. J. Personals Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Taylor came up from Myrtle Beach Sunday to attend the Homecoming at the Vass Baotist Church. Mrs. Pete Mashburn returned home from Moore County Hospi- ‘Orphanage Bowl’ Football Classic Set October 22 Tickets are on sale lor the eighth annual Orphanage Bowl football game between the Metho dist and Oxford Orphanages, to be played in Riddick Stadium at Raleigh Saturday, October 22, at 8 o. m. Proceeds of the game will go to the two orphanages to provide a recreational and physical educa tional program not otherwise in cluded in the orphanages’ budgets. Tickets may be obtained from any Shriner or ticket chairman of Methodist Churches in Eastern North Carolina. Sponsored by Sudan Temple Shriners, the game, with its at tendant color provided by high school bands and the uniformed temple units, has had a tremen dous morale-building effect upon residents of the institutions as well as given them an adequate physical educational program, ac- cordirig to Sudan Temple Poten tate J.
