Common Glory,” is the author of “The Founders,” a new out
door historical drama which will be presented next year by the
Jamestown Corporation, an educational, non-profit organization,
as a special feature of the 1957 Jamestown Festival. “The Found
ers,” an entirely new symphonic drama, deals with the 1607 set
tlement at Jamestown.

To Attend World
Methodist Meet
The Rev. J. R. Funderburk,
presiding elder of the A. M. E.
Zion Church, has been named a
delegate to the World Methodist
Conference being held at Lake
Junaluska September 1 through
September 12.
The conference, which will at
tract church leaders from all sec
tions of the world. Will consist
of a series of conferences and
meetings on religious problems
throughout the world. ,
Lake Junaluska, summer as
sembly for Methodism’s South
eastern District, is the largest
church assembly grounds in the
United States. It was founded by
la5mien in 1913 as the summer
program headquarters of Metho
dists in nine Southeastern states.
Since then it has grown imtil
it is now considered the Southern
“capitol” of Methodism.
The World Methodist Confer
ence is expected to draw 2,600
clergymen and laymen from 40
countries.
Excellent adobe brick work

when they first invaded the New
World.
The domestic brick industry
was established in Virginia in
1611 and in Massachusetts in
1629.

Each proposal shall be accom
panied by a bid bond or a certi
fied check for at least 5% of the
amount of his bid. Made payable
to the Board of Education of
Southern Pines. As a further al
ternative the bidder may accom
pany his proposal with a cash bid
deposit amounting to 5% of the
amount of his bid, or any com
bination of the above which pro
vided bid security of at least 5%
of the bid. The bid deposit may,
at the discretion of the Board,' be
retained in the event the success
ful bidder fails to execute the
contract within 10 days after the
award or fails to give satisfactory
surety bond as required.
Bidders are hereby notified
that all applicable Local, State
and Federal Laws will be ob
served in receiving bids, in
awarding contracts and in com
pleting contracts.
In consideration of the Board
receiving his bid, each bidder
agrees that no bid may be with
drawn after the scheduled clos
ing time for the receipt of bids,
for a period of 30 days. It is the
intention of the Board to return
all bid deposits except the three
lowest bidders, within 48 hours

ders will be held until contracts
have been awarded or deferred,
but not longer than 30 days un
less written permission is given
by the contractor for an exten
sion of time beyond the original
30 days.
A Performance and Payment
Bond wil be required for aU con
tractors in an amount equal to
100% of the contract price guar
anteeing the faithful perform
ance of the contract and guar
anteeing payment to all persons
supplying labor and | or materials
for the construction of the pro
jects. 'The Owner reserves the
right to reject any or all bids, or
to accept the lowest legal bid
deemed in the best interest of the
Board, and to reject any bid
which is not presented formally.
