Meeting Set at
(Carthage Hotel
Two in a series of meetings be
ing held throughout the State to
promote safety in the sawmill in
dustry will be held at Lumberton
and at Carthage February 28 and
March 1.
Sponsored by the N. C. Fores
try Association with headquar
ters at Raleigh, the meetings are
being held in an effort to earn re
ductions in the workmen’s com
pensation rate for sawmills. Both
the Lumberton and the Carthage
meetings will begin with a dutch
supper at 6:30 p. m. with a formal
program at 7:30. The Lumberton
meeting will be held at Johnson’s
Restaurant, while the Carthage
Hotel will be the site of the Car
thage gathering.
Safety engineers from the N. C.
Department of Labor and from
the insurance industry will be
present to lead a discussion on
safety techniques in sawmill oper
ations. Both meetings will be
open to the public.
Since the N. C Forestry Asso
ciation launched its safety pro
gram in 1959, two substantial re
ductions in the workmen’s com
pensation rate have been realized
in the logging industry. Similar
results are the objective of the
recently-launched safety program
for sawmills.
