Vass News & Personals BY MRS. CHARLES CAMERON General Meeting The quarterly general meeting of Circles 1 and 2 of the WSCS of the Vass Methodist Church will be held Monday evening, at 7:30 p. m. in the church’s fellowship hall. Mrs. Charles Cameron will be in charge of the program. At Jamboree Attending the National Boy Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge, Pa., are two Scouts from Vass -Troop 810, James Jessup and i Bruce Morgan. Presbyterian Circles The circles of the Vass Presby-^ terian Women of the Church met; last week with emphasis on | “Christian Citizenship.” A social | hour, with refreshments, followed each meeting. Mrs. D. F. Cameron was hostess to the Jane McGill Circle on Mon day night. Mrs. C. G. Crockett presided! and moderated the Bible study. Mrs. Ben Wood gave the monthly emphasis. Circle 1 met Monday night with Mrs. Roger Marion. Mrs. George Laubscher, vice chairman, presided and led the Bible study. Mrs. Hugh McLeaji was in charge of the program. Sympathy Extended The community was saddened Sunday with the passing ol L. W. Hutchinson. Mr. Hutchinson had overcome a long period of illness and hospitalization at St. Joseph’s Hospital and' N. C. Memorial at Chapel Hill and was able to be out in the community anrong his many friends prior to his re entry at St. Joseph last week, where he died early Sunday morning. Sympathy is extended to the family in the death of the hus band and father. Attend Retreat Attending a Retreat of the Wo men of the Fayetteville Presby tery last Tuesday at Camp Mon roe were Mrs. P. A. Wilson, Mrs. Eugene Hicks and Mrs. Violet McGill. Attend Wedding The Baptist Church at Colum bia, N. C., was the scene of the Sunday wedding of Miss Iris Snell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.' Colin H. Snell of Columbia, and Dan Weaver McDonald of Route 2, Vass, son of Mrs. D. K. Mc Donald of Greensboro, formerly of Cameron, and the late Mr. McDonald. A reception given by the bride’s parents at their home followed the church ceremony. Attending the wedding in addi tion to the bridegrooni’s inother, who accompanied her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Yarboro, from their home in Greensboro to the wedding break fast given by an aunt of the bride’s were: Mr. and Mrs. Tom Boggs of White Hill; Miss Agnes Boggs, Mrs. Stedman Thomas of Cameron; Mr. and Mrs. Billy Briggs of Lemon Springs, who attended as an usher, and Mrs. Briggs as a bridesmaid of the bride, her college roommate at ECC. Roy Boggs, a cousin of the bridegroom, was best man. Personals Mrs. Daniel Boggs was a guest' of Mrs. Ben Lane of Pittsboro from Simday until Wednesday of last week, when they accompani ed Mrs. Lane’s son-in-law and' daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis, Gaines and boys Jerry and C. L. of Goldston, to Carolina Beach, returning to her home here Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McDermott of Washington were here for the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. McDermott Sr. and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. George McRae and boys had as their guest the first of last week a brother-in- law and sister of Mrs. McRae, Mr. and Mrs. Don Routhier and four sons of Toledo, Ohio. The latter part of the week, Mrs. McRae accompanied' a sister. Miss Kath erine Smith of Fayetteville who called at the home, to Chester, Pa., where they visited with a brother-in-law and an older sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Lassiter and spent a day visiting with a brother, and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Swain of Hights- town, N. J. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cameron and sons Randy and Craig, ac companied by Miss Carol Foster and Donald' Blue, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Blue of Southern Pines, returned Sunday from a week’s vacation at Myrtle Beach, S. C. Joining the family for the weekend were Roy and BiU Frye. Sunday afternoon visitors with Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Tyson were Mr. and Mrs. C. D. McLeod of Sanford. Mr. and Mrs. George “Butch” Griffin who have been attending summer classes at Western Car olina Teachers CoUege, Cullo- whee, and her brother, David Winfrey of Clyde, came this weekend for a few weeks’ stay here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Griffin and family. George wiU be a member of the High School faculty of Waynes- ville Township School this Fall, where he will teach social studies.
