How the Martins Hit After getting off to a slow start, the Martins are, in the ver nacular of the late Mr Gus Harrison, "laying the wood on the ball" now, according to a review of the cold facts recorded during the first ten games. The Martins are batting at a clip right at .300 as compared with .271 recorded in the first ten games last season. In the regular batting line-up. Leon Thompson, tender of the outer gardens, is leading the way with a stick percentage of .455. Thompson is maintaining an even keel with most of his hits count ing tor clean singles. Rock, the acknowledged powerhouse, is sec ond in the regular batting line-up with .357 points. First position in the extra base knocks is held by him with margin to spare. He has been preyed upon and robbed by fielders and last Saturday a lone pole in the big right field took a home run right out of the record for him. In the Runs Batted In. a very important column. "Hard" Rock and Third Baseman Lozier Newman are tied up at 9-all, with Kel ler and Thompson following close behind with 7 and six respect ively. As far as the big figures go, Bartnick. pitcher, is leading the field with an even 1.000. Miller and Bomar. pitchers, came through with a percentage of .500.
