Flood Victim Gets Aid From Farmers Having plenty (or their own use and aome to spare, Bear Grass Township farmers this week ex tended a liberal corn offering to their fellow-farmer, Frank Barber, whose crops and most of his earthly belongings were wiped out by flood waters from the raging Roanoke last August in the island section of Wil liams Township. Possibly fifteen or more barrels of corn will be donated to the farmer. About IS farmers in the district willingly offered to come to their fellow-farmer's rescue. This and similar experiences have proved that | the people of Bear Grass can be de pended upon when the call of the needy is extended to them or when an emergency presents itself S Happenings In The Jamesville School | Jamesville students and teachers are looking forward to the Christmas trees and holidays in general Miss Greenlee, fifth grade teach er, was taken to her home in Spruce Pines, Saturday night, due to ill ness and will not return, in aTI prob ability, until after the holidays. Their Ship Was Torpedoed This dramatic photo, released by the Royal Canadian Navy, shows the rescue on the high seas of the survivors of a torpedoed merchant ship. The rescue was made by a Canadian destroyer. Note man in foreground, obviously too weak to climb the rope thrown to him, holding on for dear life. Last Friday night, December 6th, the Farm Life boys and girls play ed their first game of the season in the Jamcsvillc gym against Bear Grass The Ijoys were defeated by a score of 12-11 as the result of a luck shot by one of the opponents from the center line in the last 30 seconds of the game The Farm Life boys stayed ahead all evening until the lust few seconds. Both teams I played good bull. The girls were defeated 18-B in a furious struggle. The teams were evenly matched and put up good fights.
