As a few hints were made in last week's issue of a rather peculiar incident in find ing a note inclosed iu a bottle, I will give a better explanation, which will enlighten your readers. The bottle referred to was found near one of our fisheries, containing the follow ing note : Sept, 1G, 1898. "If any one should find this note, they will please return it to Miss Ellis Barksdale Bayou, Va., and explain when, where, and by whom it was found, and oblige." Upon giving the above information, as requested, I received the following facts ; "The bottle was put in the Staunton river, at Brook-Neal, a station on the L. & D. Railroad, situated in the South-western extremity of Campbell Co., Va., 35 miles south of Lynchburg and 40 miles north of Danville ; probably 50 miles north west of Clarksville-" It was put In the river as dated above, and arrived here in January. This being of such rare occurrence it was the request of some to have it pub lished, and will furnish a now idea for those who are fond of romance. J. B. White. Skinnersville, N. C,, Feb. 28, 'OU.
