These extreme nervous disorders were ue&ted with wonderful success by the dis coverer of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills for Pole People, previous to his discovery being offer ed to the public generally. This remedy is 'the only Known specific in many diseases that, until recent years, were pronounced in curable, ttere is the proof; James Crocket, a sturdy old Scotchman living in Detroit, Mich, at 88 Montcalm St., was cured of Locomotor Ataxia by these pills. I-'or many years he has been a chief engineer of one of those big passenger palace steamers plying upon the great lakes. This is a position of great respon sibility and the anxiety causes a great nervous strain. Mr. Crocket says : "For fifteen years I watched the big engines and boilers without a single accident, and only noticed that I was getting nervous. Suddenly without warning I was taken sick, and was prostrated. I had the best of physi cians but grew gradually worse. At a council of doctors, they said I had I- nervous prostration, and had destroyed my whole nervous system and would never recover. For three years I was unable to move from my bed. The doctor said I bad locomotor ataxia, aud would never be able to walk again. "The pains and suffering I experienced during those years are almost Indescribable. The friends that came to see me bid me good-bye when they left me and I was given up. The doctors said nothing more could tr? done. My wife kept reading to me, articles about Dr. Williams' Pink Pills for Pale People. We finally decided to try them. The first box gave me relief. I continued to use them for about two years before I could get strength enough to walk. I am nearly seventy-five years old and there is not a man in this city that can kick higher or walk further than lean and to-day I owe my present good health to Dr.. General Baron Eappe, Swedish Minister'of War, has just suHerecl a penalty for a very amusing slight to royal ceremony. The day before Christmas King Oscar summoned a cabinet council to the palace. At the last moment General Itappe, who is notoriously absent minded, having on his full uniform, as required by the regulations, forgot to put on his plumed chapeau, and hastily clapped his ordinary silk hat on his unfortun ate head. No one happened to see him en route till he approached the palace. The King and the rest of the cabinet, looking out of the window, saw the motley War Minister ap proaching, and burst into loud guffaws at bis unceremonious appearance. They chaffed him without mercy, and the King, to censure his absence of mind, put him under a three days' ar rest as provided by the military regu lations forbidding the wearing of ci vilian attire in conjunction with mili tary uniform. What Oar Knowledge is Good For. The attainment of skill is the alpha as it is the omega of science. It was the attempt to gain perfection in his every-day work that led primeval man to take the first steps in that great movement of which the fruition ap pears in the final development of our modern universities. For a man of highest culture, also, the end and ob ject of study is, as Aristotle teaches us, not the attainment of knowledge, bvt the perfecting of conduct, and this is true not only when we con ceive of conduct as our action in rela tion to other men, but also if we look upon it as action in relation to the ob jects and conditions which surround us. The children of this generation have a great many little dainty things that were not considered necessary in the past generation. And while there aro people who do not hesitate to say too much is being done for children, there are a few sensible individuals who re alize that children are never too young to learn to appreciate dainty belong ings. Almost every little girl of ten or twelve is now given a room to her self, and this is daintily and prettily fitted up. If it is not possible for the jhild to have her own room, and she must needs share it with h sister, or svon a maid, at all events she can have her own bureau or dressing table and writing desk, aud these can be fur nished with what is both useful and pretty without starting any extrava gant ideas. Harper's Bazar. ftpnts on the Carpet. When soot is spilled upon the car pet, heat enough brau to cover it, spread it over the place to the depth 3f an inch or more, and set a hot iron 31 two on the bran. The heat draws the grease out, and the brau absorbs it. One application is usually sufH jient.but if any grease remains, sweep the bran off and apply a fresh coating. Ink stains can usually be removed if treated as soon as the ink is spilled. Take a large, coarse sponge and take np all the ink it will absorb. Wash the sponge, pour sweet milk ou the Bpot, aud dry with the sponge as often as necessary to remove every trace of ink. Then wash the place with clean suds, rinse thoroughly, and wipe as dry as possible. Every trace of ink will be gone when the carpet is dry. Blotting paper may be used to absorb the ink if the sponge is not at hand, aud the carpet washed with a soft :loth. . How to Grate a Cocoa nut. "It is no trouble to grate a cocoa out," says Miss Cornelia C. Bedford, the cooking expert, "but there are ways and ways of doing it. Now, I consider it worth while to pay a few sents more when I am going to use a cocoauut aud have it peeled for me. Then I have a large almond grater wd I break my cocoanut into small pieces and put it in the grater. Then I turn the crank for a few minutes and my nut is grated as finely as I wish it and with no trouble. There is a sim ple cocoauut pudding, which I think is very good, for which I buy cocoa nut iu this way aud grate it. I butter thick slices of stale bread, cut into half-inch dice, and to one quart of the dice allow. a heaping cupful of the nut, one-half, cupful of sugar, one pint milk, four eggs, a pinch of salt, and a teaspoonful of vanilla. Then I butter a deep baking dish and put in alternate layers of the crumbs and grated nut. Then I separate the whites from two of the eggs and beat ihe rest together, add the milk, salt and vanilla, mix well, pour over the eonteuts of the dish and bake in a moderate oven until fet in the centre. The two whites remaining I whip un til frothy, add two tablespoonfuls of powdered sugar and half a teaspoon ful of vanilla, whip until stiff and glossy, heap' over the pudding, dust thickly wi h powdered sugar, return to the oven until it is colored a deli eate brown aud serve cold. The juice of half an orange can be used in place of the vanilla," if desired, and the grated rind of a quarter of the peel with a few drops of the juice in the frosting. " Chicago Times-Herald. Recipes. Rice Fritters Two eups of cold boiled rice, two eggs, one cup of milk, one sjioonful of baking powder, one cup of flour, half a cup of sugar. Have some beef suet hot, drop into the pan a spoonful of the batter and fry brown. Serve hot with a sauce made with one cup of sugar, one tea spoonful of flour and any flavoring to suit; add one cupful of boiling water. Lemon Honey Take one pound of oaf sugar, six eggs, the juice of six lemons, the grated rinds of two, and one-quarter of a pound of butter. Put the sugar, butter and lemon juice in a saucepan and melt slowly over a gen tle fire; when all are dissolved stir iu the eggs, which have been well beat en, stir in rapidly uutil it is as thick as uoney. It will keep twelve months if put up air-tight. To Preserve String Beans To one peck cleaned and sliced (late) green beans take one quart of coarse salt. Use a large crock and put in a layer of beans, then a layer of salt and so on until it is full, then cover with a cloth and round board (small euough to go inside the crock) and weighed down with a stone to keep them com pact. Before using soak in fresh wa ter to remove the salt. Consomme Royale Beat up three yolks of eggs and one white, pepper, and salt thein and stir them into one gill of stock. Cut the best flesh of a cooked chicken into dice and place this and the custard in a hot tureen. Boil three pints of consomme and pour it into the tureen, then serve the soup quickly. Fried Onions There is but one way, says a culinary authority, to fry oniona properly. Cut them in slices and soak ten minutes in milk. Then dip the slices in flour and drop them in boiling fat fat that is hot enough to brown instantly a bit of bread di op2)ed in it. Fry about six minutes and take out with a skimmer upon a brown pa per. The move common way is to frj a few slices of salt perk or bacon aud then fry the onions in the fat.
