At a meeting of the Board of Councilmea last week the rate of taxation was, after due consideration, advauced On many kinds of business. We learn that this progressive step on the part of the Board has created some unpleasant criticism. We do not see why, for taking it all in ajl the taxes and special privileges in Plymouth are lower than. most towns. Oar city father fire men who have tho best jnte'rests of the town at heart, awcl their actions on this, as well.as other matters, were taken widi the view of promoting the town. Cure, no pay. 50c. no? 12-ly Judge Brown for Associate Justice.. We, the undersigned lawyers of the First Judicial District, of which Judge George II. Brown is the Kesi deut Judge, present his name to the Democratic Convention for Associate Justice. In this, his home district and among his home people who know him best, his character as a man a lawver and a Judge is beyond criti cism. We think he should receive the nomination for one of the vacan cies for these cogent rensons : First, his eminent fitness, impar tiality and capasity for high judicial office has been demonstrated by four teen years of continuous service. Second, he is tho senior Superior Court Judge in length of service and and has borne all the hardships of the life of a Circuit Judge for that long period. It is sound policy in variably adhered to by Democratic State Conventions to promote those Superior Court Judges who remain on the bench and devote their lives to judicial labor. Third, Judge Brown was nomina ted and received the nomination for Associate Justice in 1896, when there was no chance of election, and along with the entire ticket went down in the fusion cyclone of that year. Mow that an election seems assured, we think it but just he should receive the nomination. Thos. G. Skinner, W.B.Rodman, E. F. Aydlett, E. F. Lamb, J. B. Leigh, Percy McMnllen, J. C.
