NOTICE TO TEACHERS Please take notice that the State Summer-school and institute for Transylvania County will be held at Brevard Institute commencing June 10th, novi^, therefore all teachers who are required by law to attend insti tute or renew certificates, or obtain orginal credit will please be ready to begin work on the first day if possible. The only charge to the County teach ers will be their board and room rent, which is $24 for session, if had on the campus. The State and County provide for the tuition fees. A party of men from the Institute, Messers Oscar Parker, Miles Ham rick and Jess Mathews, with Messrs. Scruggs and Clayton of Brevard, left last week to go to Oklahoma, to work in the harvest fields. B. I. boys in the 81st division, now en route for home, include Charles Hamrick, Enoch Kennedy, Clarence Douglas and Russell Wells They hope to get here in time for the re-union. John Hamrick, who is on the U. S. S. Pueblo, is also on his way home. Prof. and Mrs. Haynes arrived on Saturday and will occupy the same cottage they have had for several years. NOTICE OF AN ELECTION FOR SCHOOL HOUSE BONDS Upon petition of the County Board of Education for Transylvania Coun ty, to the Comnrissioners for said County, for an election for Catheys Creek Township, district No. 3, to ascertain the will of the people on the question of issuing bonds under the “State-wide Bond Act for School Ruildiners,” which petition is now on file in the office of the Board of Coun ty Commissioners, said Board of County Commissioners did by an or der of the Board call said election in words and figures as follows, viz: It is therefore ordered by the Board of County Commissioners of Tran sylvania County, N. C., that an elec tion be held, and such election i hereby called to be held at the Ros man school house in Rosman, N. C., on Wednesday, June 11, 1919, for Catheys Creek Township, district No. 3, to ascertain the will of the people of said district on the question of issuing bonds under the “State-wide Bond Act for School Buildings,” the amount of said bond issue to be and not to exceed $10,000 (ten thousand dollars), and the rate of interest they are to bear shall not be more than six per cent per annum, payable semi-annually, and the length of the time the bonds are to run shall not be more than twenty years, and the max imum tax that may be levied shall not exceed fifteen cents on the one hundred dollars property and forty- five cents on the poll. It is further ordered by the Board that a new re.iristration shall be had for said election, and A. M. Paxton of Rosman, N. C. be and is hereby appointed Registrar, and A. M. White of Rosman, N. C. and Geo. A. Butler of Rosman, N. C. be and they are hereby appointed Judges of said election, which registration and elec tion shall be conducted under the rules and regulations governing elec tions in Special Tax Districts as pre scribed in Section Four Thousand One Hundred and Fifteen of the Re- visal of One Thousand Nine Hundred and Five. May 5, 1919. 4tc The Institute Summer school being on the accredited State list offers op portunity to the teachers of the County never before accorded them. Such is the spirit of our teachers and their interest in preparing them selves for doing the best work possi ble every teacher of the county should enroll on the opening day, June 10. Not every county will enjoy such ad vantages. In addition to the instruc tion given to the teachers, free of cost, for certificates and renewal of certificates excellent opportunities will be offered teachers for making academic credits. Courses are offer ed too in many other subjects as expression, drawing and painting, music and the usual practical sub jects. We shall be greatly surprised if any I cacher of th6 county shall be found, who fails to appreciate and make the best possible use of these advantages. Gentlemen: As provided in the State-wide Bond Act for School Buildings (“In the General Assembly read three times and ratified this the 26th day of Feb ruary, 1915.” Effective from and after ratification. See 1915, c. 55; 1917, c. 142; c. 285) the County Board of Education of Transylvania County, North Carolina at Brevard, N. C., in regular session this the 5th day of May, 1919, do petition your honorable body to call an election after due notice as provided for in the aforesaid State-wide Bond Act to ascertain whether the votors in Catheys Creek Township district num ber three, Transylvania County, North Carolina are in favor of issu ing bonds to the amount of ten-thou sand dollars for the purpose of build ing a modern schoolhouse, and fur nishing same with suitable equipment. The amount of bonds to be issued in the event the election carries shall be tenthousand dollars, and rate of interest they are to bear shall not be more than six per cent per an num, payable semi-annually, and the length of time the bonds are to run shall not be more than twenty years, and the maximum tax that may be levied shall not exceed fifteen cents on thte one hundred dollars property and forty-five cents on the poll.
