Baley, Jr. Mrs. Baley, who served on the wel1; coming1 committee, was dressed in a l.avy Lluc dress with a navy blue straw hat on which rode a jaunty laisy and appeared as quiet as her husband, but her eyes betrayed her. They sparkled with happiness. Born January 23, 1912, at Greens boro, Baley has practiced law at Marshall since 1933. He was a rep resentative from Madison County in 1937 and . 1939 legislatures, a dele gate to the Republican national con tentions of 1940 and 1948, and as sistant chairman of the Republican Sarty for western half of North Car ina from 1946 to 1950. Baley was educated at Mar 3 Hill' College, University of North Caroli na, where he graduated with A. B. and LI. B. degrees in 1933. He served in the Navy from, 1942 to 1946, re turning to inactive duty with the Tank of lieutenant commander. The attorney is past master of French Broad Lodge 292, AF & AM and is superintendent of Sunday School and a deacon in the Baptist Church. 1 He married Miss Diana Chandley March 27, 1943 and they have two children, James M., Ill, age 5; and Kathy Dean, age 2. Death Takes Mrs. Mary Chandler Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jane Chandler, 73, who died Wed nesday, March 15, 1950, at her home on Chandler Creek Road near Mars Hill, after a brief illness, will be lield Friday at 2 p. m., in California Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. J. M. Watts and the Rev. A. McMaban will officiate and buri. al -will bis in Haynie Cemetery. Surviving are the husband, Wiley Chandler; sfx daughters, Misses Lil ly May, Leon a, Bertha .and Bern Ice of Mars Hill, Mrs Tommy Moore of 'Woodfin and Mrs. Qdell Burleson of wbo two sons, Floyd and Blake Chandler of Mars Hill; two brothers, Gilbert Crawford of Leicester, and Wilburn Crawford of Mars Hill, 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive. Announcement of the ap pointment of Mr. Ramsey was made by Mr. J. T. Martin of Greensboro, President of the North Carolina Di vision of the American Cancer So ciety. He said that he had watched the work of the American Cancer Soci ety with considerable interest and that he is glad to have part in help ing to eradicate thU drQatdiaease. He further stated that cancer is an ever-growing menace-attaching with force in every community among all classes of our citizens, rich and poor, young and old, powerful and lowly, and that it merits the interest and support of all1 the people in North Carolina.
