Billy Beck, of Fort Jackson S. C, spent the week-end here with his wife, the former Miss Helen Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. James Hardee and son of Conway, S. C, spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Worley, and her sister, Mrs. Guy White, and family, Mr. and Mrs.- Vance Holland and two children of Elkin spent the week-end in Marshall as guests of Mr. Holland's parents,. Mr. and Mrs-: W. F. Holland. iMr. and Mrs. Fred Stines and two children of Glen Alpine spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fuller Stines, and Miss Jea Stines. Mr. Lyman H. Martin, of Mar- shall and Mr. J. E. Mclntire, of Mars -Hill, attended the N. C. Voca tional Association Convention at Ra 4 leigh last week-end. They repre sented the Blue Ridge Federation at the convention. They returned Sat urday night. Miss Pearl Francis, Bride-Elect, Honored With Shower Thursday Gpl. Sherman leeid of Fort Hen ning, Ga., is spending a lOday leave with 'his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cal vin Reid of Marshall Route 2. Misses Loretta and Shirley Rev is took Sunday dinner with Miss Polly Sue Briggs. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Wilson and family, who have been residing in Marshall for several months, moved last week to Bald Creek. Mr. Wil son is connected with Sprinkle-Shel-ton Wholesale of Marshall. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cody and fam ily have moved to a house on Lower Walnut Creek. Miss Pearl Francis, who will be married to Dr. Robert Seymour Jr., n LaFollette, Tenn., on June 23, was honored last Thursday night, at a miscellaneous shower at the Mars Hill Community Club House. Approximately 150 people were present for. the occasion given by Misses Caroline Biggers, Martha Biggers, Dorothy Bakely and Frances Snelson and Mesdames Opal De Shazo, Gwyn Fish, "Violette Hender ,on, Dorothy Roberts and Julia Til in. Miss Francis is a teacher of piano and organ in the department of mu sic at Mars Hill College and Dr. Seymour is the minister of the Mars Hill Baptist Church. A program of violin selections by Miss lima Helen Hopkins, a member if the college music faculty, and )oetry readings by Miss Caroline Biggers was presented for the guests it the shower. Gifts were presented t the bridc " be in a pink model of a baby grand )iano. The Club Mouse was decorated in 'n!c, green and white using I'ink i !;r.v(ind ami Laurel. The punch ta b'e was set with an arrangement of i nk Snapdragons and Shasta Dai ie.. centered with a large replica 'f a wedding ring. White 'net outlined the tabic and w;;s gathered with white satin bows. Two beautiful silver candelabra with pink candles complemented the table decorations. Favors for the guests were mini ature containers of rice decorated with sprigs of Lily of the Valley and white ribbons. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. Robert Seymour Sr., of Greenwood, S. C, and Mrs. Paul Francis Sr., and Mrs. Paul Francis Jr., of LaFollette. r - ' lit By 'TOP", Mr. and Mrs. John Corbett were in Atlanta, Ga., last week where Mr, Conbett attended the Ford meeting. The Rev. L. Richard -Mellin re turnejvednesday night from Chat tanooga, Tenn., where he attended the Mid-South Synod Conference. Mrs. Helen McElyea Appointed Director , Of Rainbow Camp Mrs. Helen McElyea of Marshall and Candler has been appointed ' camp director of the Rainbow Camp at Boone for the summer. The Rainbow Camp is open to daughters of Masons andor Eastern Stats, and friends of Rainbow Girls of Rainbow age that is, between the ages of 12 and 18 years. Mrs. McElyea has had twelve years' experience in operating recre ational programs and camp activities for girls and boys. Mrs. McElyea is a member of the Marshall Eastern Star chapter. Don't Forget To Send The NEWS-RECORD To Your Boy in Service Presbyterian Youth Fellowship Attends, Meeting At Erwin A delegation ftim the Presbyteri an Youth Fellowship of the Marshall Presbyterian Church attended an overflight rally at Erwin, Tenn., last Saturday and Sunday. The delegation heard talks on "Literature" for the coming year, followed by discussion. A banquet was held Saturday night followed by games and songs. Before retiring to the homes of mem bers of the church, the Marshall group held Vespers services. The group attended worship serv ices at the church Sunday and of ficers for the coming year were in stalled. Robert Bowman of Mar shall was re-elected Witness Chair man. Those attending were: Madeline Ramsey, Dora Lee Edwards, Lew Allen Rice and Robert Bowman. Mrs. W. W. Hostesses were Mrs. Harry Davis and Mrs. George Reeves, who served refreshments following the business meeting. Mrs. Frtd Tillson, presi dent, introduced the items for dis cussion and arrangement were com pleted for altar flowers and Civitan luncheons for coming months. Mrs. C. D. Bowman led the devo tions with an inspirational reading and prayer. An enjoyable report was given by Mrs. W. C. Rector on the book, "From These Stones," history of Maw Hill College, by Dr. McLeod.
