/ ?' Belle Dodd Belle Ruth Dodd, 87, of 156 Michigan Ave., Asheville, died Sun day in a Yancey County hospital. A Madison County native, she was a daughter of the late Tam and Sallie Kate Proffitt Crain and the wife of the late Maxwell Dodd Sr. She attended West Asheville Assembly of God. Surviving are a sen, Topsy Hollifield of Erwin, Tenn. , a sister. Dora Byrd of Burnsville; a half brother, Floyd Davis of Swannanoa ; and, two step-grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday in Green Hills Cemtery. The Rev. J. Michael Brown officiated. Floyd V. Harrison Floyd Vert) Harrison, 66, of 115 Aliens Creek Road, Waynesville, died Sunday at his residence. A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Floyd and Mildred Gorenflo Harrison. He retired from Day co Southern. He served in the Ar my during World War II and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of Madison County Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Mary "Pat" Gardner Harrison; a daughter, Joy Shuler of Hazelwood; a son, Frank K. Harrison of Southport; a stepson, Richard Anthony of Fletcher; and, a Church News Walnut Methodist Homecoming Set Walnut Methodist Church will hold homecoming services Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. followed by a covered dish din ner. Benefit At Middle Laurel Middle Laurel Church of God will sponsor a benefit singing for Manassa Gunter Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. Alexander Baptist Plans Singing Alexander Baptist Church will hold singing services Sunday beginning at 7 p.m. Carmen Church Schedules Benefit Carmen Church of God will hold a joint Walk/Bike-A-Thon Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at the church. Estoy Rogers Estoy Baird Rogers, 86, of Asheviile, formerly of Weaverville, died July 28 in an Asheviile nursing center. A native of Madison County, she had lived in Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a member of Weaverville First Presbyterian Church. She was a daughter of the late John and Lorena Burnette Baird and the wife of Vernon Pete Rogers, who died in 1974. Surviving are two daughters, Lois Herman of Arden and June Aiken of Asheviile; a son, Waldron B. Rogers of Brevard; two sisters, Zarilda Met calf and Eugenia Stewart of Mars Hill; and, a grandchild. Graveside services were held last Thursday in West Memorial Park. The Rev. C.A. Zabriskie officiated. Cordelia Payne Cordelia Graham Payne, 90, of 327 Sandy Mush Road, died July 28 at her residence. A lifelong resident of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and AJvira Freeman Graham and the wife of Hobert Payne, who died in 1964. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Lloyd Payne of Marshall; a daughter, Maythorne McElreath of Leicester; a brother, A.T. Graham of Marshall; four grandchildren; and, four great grandchildren. Services were held Friday in the chapel of Bowman Funeral Home. The Rev. Carroll Ingle officiated. Burial was in Piney Grove Cemetery. Mary Bryan Mary Eula Wallin Bryan, 73, of Thomasville, died July 27 in Winston Salem. A native *f Madison County, shf had lived iiT^Ttxjmasville since 1961. Ada Payne Ada Buckner Payne, 84, of 490 Bend of Ivy Road, Marshall, died July 28 in an Asheville hospital. A lifelong resident of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Tinie Smith Buckner and the wife of Jim Bob Payne, who died in 1963. She attended Sexton Free Will Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Harry and Barnett Payne of Marshall; a daughter, Ruth Henderson of Mar shall; nine grandchildren; and, nine great-grandchildren . Services were Friday in the chapel of Bowman Funeral Home. The Revs. Spivey Penland and Sammie Moore officiated. BUrial was in Kirk Payne Cemetery. Jesse Branch Jesse James Branch, 90, of Black Mountain, died July 28 in an Asheville nursing home. A native of Swain County, he had lived in Buncombe County for most of his life. He retired from Beacon Manufacturing Co. and was formerly an employee of Hickory Frye Fur niture Co. He was a son of the late Wiley and Carolina Branch. Surviving are his wife, Rosie Branch; six sons, James and Sam Branch of Black Mountain, Bill, Henry, Lawrence and Robert Branch, all of Hickory; two daughters, Josephine Henson of Black Mountain and Lorraine Price of Marshall; a brother, Walter Branch of Gastonia; a sister, Mary Tessiner of Asheville; 28 grand children; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and, a great-great-great-grandchild. Services were held Thursday in the Black Mountain chapel of Forest was in Mountain View Cemetery Edith Ward Edith Rice Ward, 56, of Route S Bee Tree Road, Marshall, died July 29 in a Morganton hospital. A lifelong resident of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Woodard and Bonnie Arringtoo Rice and the wife of Grady Ward, who died in 1970. She was a member of East Fork Church of God. Surviving are two sons, Allen Payne of Weaverville and Joseph Ward of the home; two brothers, Cecil Rice of Orlando, Fla., and the Rev. Joe Rice of Weaverville; and, a sister, Johnnie Coates of Marshall. Services were held Sunday in the chapel of Bowman Funeral Home The Revs. Anderson Coffey and Carl Robinson officiated. Burial was in Rice Family Cemetery. Keith Bartlett Keith Edward Bartlett, 23, of 326 Reger Ave., Sherwood Forest, Swan nanoa, died last Thursday in an Asheville hospital. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of Clarence E. and Helen Wyatt Bartlett of Swan nanoa. He was a graduate of Owen High School and a member of Sun ny side Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Brian Barlett of the home; and the maternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wyatt of Marshall. Services were held Sunday in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home. The Revs. Neil Adams and Bill Nelson officiated. Burial was in Skyview Memorial Park. Roland A. Barnes Roland Albert Barnes, 59, of New found Road, Route 1 Leicester, died Friday in an Asheville hospital. Barnes, a lifelong resident of Bun combe County, retired from the Ar my after a years of service. He serv ed in World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. He was employed by Brendle's. He was a son of the late Theodore Roosevelt and Julia Ma Brown Barnes. Surviving are bis wife, Peggy Ann Drake Barnes; two stepdaughters, Susan Taylor of Arden and Barbara Doster of Asheville; three stepsons. Michael Eugene and David Lee McMurry of Asheville and Thomas P. McMurry of High Point; three sisters, Myrtle H. Williams of Leicester, Gladys B. Dunn of Asheville and Alice B. Corn of Arden ; a brother, Donald E. Barnes of Asheville; and, six step grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Puneral Home. Capt. Thomas R. McElhaney officiated. Burial was in Green Hills Cemetery with military rites. Rebecca Swan Rebecca Coates Swann, 88, of Black Mountain, died Saturday at her daughter's residence. A native of Marshall, she had lived most of her life in Black Mountain. She was the wife of the late Tommy Swann and the daughter of the late Garrett and Sophronia Coates. Surviving are three sons, Claude Swann of Acworth, Ga., the Rev. Vaughn Swann of Black Mountain and Grady Swann of Enka; three daughters, Iva Padgett of Marion, Eva Ash worth of Arden and Marie Mills of Old Fort; 12 grandchildren; and, nine great-grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday in Kerlee Baptist Church in Black Mountain, of which she was a member. The Revs. Charles Duyck and Leo Kuykendall officiated.
