Hansel King Hansel Harold King, 80, of Alex ander Road, Leicester, died Friday in a Buncombe Cowty hospital A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, be was the son of the late Abe and Cora Clark King and the husband oT Lottie Ward King, who died in 1963. He retired from American Enka Corp. Surviving are four tons, James Weaver King of Candler, Robert Reeves and Carroll King of Leicester and Paul Ray King of Baltimore. N, Buncombe Orientation Set Sessions to help North Buncombe High School students become acquainted with their newly constructed building will be held Aug. 13-14, according to the following schedule : Seniors, 9-11 a.m. Aug. 13; Juniors, 1-3 p.m. Aug. 13; Sophomores, 9-11 Aug. 14; and, Freshmen, 1-3 p.m. Aug. 14. SAR T Plans World Premiere The Southern Appalachian Repertory Theater presents the world premiere of "The Death of Cindy Squyres" Wednesday. This is the 22nd world premiere play to be produced by SART in its 13r year history. "The Death of Cindy Squyres" is a look into the world of a small town theatrical group as they try to cope with the mysterious death of one of their members. "Cin dy" will run Aug. 12-17. For reservations call 68*1239. In the church cemetery. Ruth B. Franklin Ruth Bailey Franklin, 73, of Rout. 2, Walker Branch Road, Mara Hill died Sunday in a Madison County nur sing home. She was a native of Yancey County and had lived In Madison County for 41 years. She was a daughter of the late John Wes and Burgie Angel Bailey and the wife of Floyd Franklin, who died in November 1966 She was a member of Terry's Fork Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Jospehine Smith of Weaverville; two sons, William and Gary Franklin of Mars Hill; a sister. Hazel Bailey of Burnsville; two brothers, Levi Bailey of Burnsville and Paul Bailey of Johnson City, Tenn.; 16 grand children; and, 12 great grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday in the chapel of Capps Funeral Home. The Revs. Frances Radford and Cline Honeycutt officiated. Burial was in Chambers Cemetery. Victim's Friends Donate $3,387 Relatives and friends of Frankie Junker Long, the 52-year-old Cary woman killed in a June white-water rafting accident on the French Broad River, have donated $3,387 to five Madison County emergency agen cies. The funds will be split between the Madison County Emergency Management Service, the Madison County Sheriff's Department, the Mars Hill Fire Department, the Mar shall Fire Department and the Ebbs Chapal Fire Department. ' The money is in appreciation of the various department's roles in efforts to locate and retrieve Long's body after she drowned when the raft in which she was a passenger hit a boulder and overturned. Authorities Confiscate Marijuana The Madison County Sheriff's Department has charged a 35-year- . old Big Pine man with manufacturing a controlled substance. The department arrested James L. Medders last week and charged him with manufacturing 26 marijuana plants, Sheriff Dedrick Brown said. The arrest came during a week of drug raids throughout Madison Coun ty that netted more than 200 mari juana plants. The plants were found in the Big Pine, Little Pine, Grapevine. Studenc, IS, to the newspaper staff. Mrs. Studenc is the wife of BUI Studenc, News Record editor, and currently resides in Waynes ville A 1964 graduate of Western Carolina University, Mrs. Studenc has a bachelor of arts degree in English. She taught English for two years at Bethel Junior High School in Haywood County before taking the position at The News Record. Mrs. Studenc's duties at The News Record will include various reporting and advertising responsibilities. Margaret A. C Constitution Group Seeks Descendants Tbe Buncombe County Commission on the Bicentennial of the Constitu tion is looking for descendants of the persons who signed the Constitution in 1787. These persons will be invited to participate in a session of the pro gram at City-County Plaza on Aug. 17 when the historic exhibit "Roads to Liberty" visits Asheville. The exhibit will be open to the public from noon to 9 p.m. on that day, with a number of civic and historic activities scheduled around it in the Plaza.
