Free Methodist Church Here Was 'Built By Faith' The "exercise of faith" accom panied by plenty of hard work has enabled a inembershiD of 23 to build a $12,000 church and to established a linn foundation for growth 'of the Free Methodist con gregation in Waynesville. Co-pastors Ruth Gruber and Charlotte 'Bishop' came here a lit tle over two years ago, after hav ing built up churches In Andrews and in Murphy. The old American Legion building seemed the most suitable for temporary ipiarters. but II was in such poor repair that persuading ils owner to let them have It was a job in itself. Painting and patching with their own hands resulted in a chapel for services and living quarters for Hie two women. The next move was to the form er Scott Reeves home on Bound ary Street; then the culmination of their efforts the present chapel at Assembly and Oak Streets. The building was started in October, and was ready for the first service on January 28 of this year. The Reverend Paul Elder of Ma con, Georgia, district superintend t nt, -conducted the opening service, which was attended by 148 per sons. The llurists of the town do nated (lowers to decorate the chapel. Again and again the note of faith sounds in everything that Pastor Gruber says. "We never asked people for money, nor put on a big campaign." she said, "and yet when we needed money for the lot it came. Then whqn we were starting on the actual building, 1 tore open a letter from an old friend and out dropped four $100 money orders!" The church is built to take care of future needs. The auditorium seats 250 persons. There are six Sunday School rooms. The build ing is heated by gas. The two pastors hope that their Board will let them remain in Waynesville another two years; then they'll be off to some other community to "minister to human ity in any way we can". fvfr iS "y Alfred J. A cloud shadowed them, from which a voice said, "This ls My beloved Son: hear Him." Suddenly the vision disappeared and the three disciples found themselves alone with the Master. As they walked down the mountainside, Jesus charged them that they tell no man what they had seen and heard until He was risen. A multitude met them. A scribe came to Jesus and told Him of his son who was possessed of an evil spirit. Jesus ex pelled the spirit but the child lay as one dead; but Jesus lifted him up and he was well. .
