HORACE PEEK (Mountaineer Correspondent) The Methodist Youth Fellowship of Bethel Methodist Church now has a lovely memorial chapel in which to meet. The old pulpit which was used in the first church built by the congregation was re finished for use in the new chapel. . During Youth Activities Week the young people built an altar with a velvet backdrop and put up new draperies in one of the upper rooms of the Sunday School build ing. The pulpit Bible was present ed by the Woman's Society of Christian Service. , Mrs. N. J. Potter of New York City gave a spinet piano in memory of her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Mauney, and Sunday night H. K. Terrell, chairman of the board of trustees, presented the piano for dedication. The con gregation joined with the minister in an impressive dedicaton service. The altar was decorated with flow ers in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Mauney, At the present time, the Bethel Community Cemetery Fund is $1408.60 $1075.60 in cash and $393.00 in pledges to be paid be fore the project is completed. The trustees had hoped that the contractors might begin work the first week in April, but unless funds come in more rapidly; this Will not be possible. The original contract 0f $1800.00 will cover leveling, seeding, and straightening tombstones on the old section of the cemetery, which was deeded by Elijah Deaver. When the $1800 is raised, work will begin. 011 this section. Details of the project covering the new section of the cemetery are being worked out and will soon be made public. In the meantime, con tributions designated for this sec tion will be reserved. Everyone who has collected money for the cemetery project should turn it in at once to Mrs. Edith Howell, Route 3, Canton, so that work can begin as soon as possible.
