" .. - Mountain View Garden Club Has Meeting The Mountain View Garden Club held its October meeting Thursday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Paul Blackwell with Mrs. A, H. megg as associate hostess. Mrs. Joe Cathey presided. Mrs. W. Sherrod McCall, a mem ber of the Richland Garden Club, presented the program. She gave a lecture on methods of pruning and transplanting shrubs and bulbs Mrs. W. M. Cobb. Mrs. Irving Leatherwood, and Mrs. Cathey gave reports on the Garden School which they attended in Asheville last month and Mrs. Boyd Owen re ported on the lecture on Table Setting which she attended this week at the Battery Park Hotel. Luncheon was served by the hostesses prior to the meeting. Guests were Mrs. Paul McElrOy, Mrs. Thomas Stringfield, Mrs. Marguerite Haynes, Mrs. Phil Med ford, and Mrs. David Felmet. Beta Sigma Phi Members Attend Convention " Four members of the local chap ter of Beta Sigma Phi sororitv at tended the Carolina Annual Con vention of Beta Sigma Phi at the Hotel Charlotte, in Charlotte this week end. They were Mrs Rav El lis, Mrs. Sebe Bryson, Miss Edna bummerrow, and Miss Bernice Harrell. Around two hundred and fifty members of the sorority from the two Carolinas were in attendance at the convention and Walter W. Ross, III, of Kansas City, Mo., president of the International Of fice of Beta Sigma Phi, was the principal speaker. The program included a banquet and dance at the hotel Saturday evening. ' : . ' Mrs. Noland Is Honored At Linen Shower Mrs. Jack Noland, the former Miss Elsie Green, was guest of honor at a linen shower given Saturday evening with Mrs. James Tutwiler as hostess in her home on Balsam Street. Fall flowers were used to carry out a blue and yellow motif in the decorations. Following a dessert course, the guests played canasta and prizes were won by Miss Mary Medford, "who' had ihigh seore and Mrs. Er win Burgin, who had low score. Mrs, Tutwiler was assisted in receiving by Mrs. Welch Tutwiler. The guests included Mrs. Noland, Mrs. M. C. Jion S7 Wavnesville - - Miss Helen Jewel Robinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Hoy Thomas Robinson of Waynesville, became the bride of Enos Riley Boyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn A. Boyd of Waynesville, Route 2, Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock In the Waynesville Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Malcolm Williamson, pastor of the church, pronounced the vows. The altar was decorated with palms and ferns interspersed with floor standurds of white gladioli and seven-branched candelabra holding lighted white tapers. Mrs. W. L. Matney, organist, and Mrs. Fred Calhoun, soloist, pre sented a program of nuptial music. Mrs. Matney played "Claire de Lune," by Debussy and Schubert's "Serenade". Mrs. Calhoun sang "O Promise Me," prior to the cere mony and "The Lord's Prayer," as a benediction. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a ' waltz length gown of imported Podonge lace and white satin fashioned on prin cess lines and designed with ny lon net yoke outlined with ap pliqued satin leaves and seed pearls. The long sleeves were of lace ending in points at the wrists and the skirt was of lace with deep flounce of satin. She wore a fin gertip veil of illusion attached to a bonnet of lace and nylon net with seed pearl trim, and carried a bouquet of white roses and steph anotis centered with a white or chid. , Mrs. Rhea Clark was her sister's matron of honor and only attend ant. She wore a strapless gown de signed with a blue satin bodice, net skirt and a bolero jacket. Her headdress was of blue net and vel vet - and she-carried an arnr bou quet, of yellow chrysanthemums tied with matching ribbon. Glenn A. Boyd served as his son's best man and ushers were Robert Robinson, brother of the bride,, Francis Boyd, brother of the bridegroom, Harry McCrackeu and William P. Burgin. Immediately after .the ceremony the parents of the bride entertain ed with a reception in the dining room of the church. Assisting in receiving wereMiss Margaret Boyd, sister of the bride groom, Mrs. Oliver yount, Jr Mrs. Harry McCracken, and Miss Mary Sue Crocker. The bride's table was covered with a Madeira cloth and was cen tered with a three-tiered wedding cake, flanked by silver candelabra holding white candles. Mrs. Robinson, mohter of the bride wore an afternoon dre of navy crepe with matching acces sories and a corsage of red roses, The mother of the bridegroom wore a grey crepe dress with matching accessories, and a corsage of yel low roses. After tuc reception the couple left for a wedding trip to New York and Canada. For traveling the bride wore a dressmaker suit of grey wool with navy and coral ac cessories and the orchid detached from her bridal bouquet. Mrs. Boyd was graduated from the Waynesville Township High School and Is now employed at Slack's Store. , . ... Mr. Boyd Is also a graduate of the Waynesville schools and served four and one-half years with the Army Air "orcc during World War II. He is presently connected with the Waynesville Tractor Company. . Mrs. W.
