Morning Star Club Meets With Mr&^Mann The Morning SUr Horn* Dem onstration Club met Monday after noon in the home of Mr*. Thomas Mann. The president. Mr*. Howard Cole, presided and the devotional was given by Mrs. Emmett Pat ton. MT*. Emmett Patton announced a HeetVii Conference to be held In Hickory. He port* were given in Family Life by Mrs. V. E. The demonstration on "New Trands in Windows, Cornices, and Valances" was given by Mis Mary Cornwall. e # # Mrs. Moody Is Hostess To Home Club A regular meeting of the Allen's Creek Home Demonstration Club was held Wednesday afternoon In the home of Mrs. Tom Moody. Eleven members were present and the devotions were conducted by Mrs.,Bud Edwards. Mrs. Meek Edwards and Mrs. Arthur Dills were appointed to assist with the pre-school clinic at the Allen's Creek School and plans were made for a basket workshop to be held In the home of Mrs. Nettle Allen on March 22. Mrs. Glenn Boyd, vice-president, pre sided. Mrs. Dave Boyd, Mrs. Bill Boyd and Mrs. Dick Moody were guests. Mrs. Ralph Boyd gave a report on Salvador, which is the club's chosen county to study. E. Henshaw have announced the engagement of their daughter, Ruth Frances, to John William Rogers, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Rogers of Talla hassee. Fla. The bride-elect was graduated from Miami Edison High School and is now a Junior at Florida State University. Tallahassee. She is a member of Sigma Kappa, social fraternity, junior class social chair man. and a member of Sigma Tau Delta, English honorary fraternity. Singing Convention Is Set For Sunday The quarterly Haywood County singing convention will be held at the courthouse Sunday, March 11, at 1:30 p.m. Ray Parker of Canton, president of the convention, will be in charge of the program. Nothing Sells Like Newspapers Girl Scouts To Attend Church Services Sunday Girl SctuU and Browniaa of the Waynesville area will begin their annual celebration of Girl Scout Week by attending church services i together next Sunday. Troops of Waynesville and Hazel wood with their leaders and adult members will attend the U o'clock service at the First Meth odist Church. The two troops of the Pigeon Street School with their leaders will attend the ser vice at the Mount Olive Baptist Church on pigeon Street. The second major observance of the week will be the opening of the annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale on Tuesday. March IS. The sale will continue for two weeks, dur ing which all Girl Scouts will sell cookies to raise funds for their camp site near Brevard. Mrs. Wil liam Ray is serving as chairman of the sale. Friday. March 16, at 9:30 a.m. a group of local Scouts will appear on a television program from W LOS-TV. The girls will begin preparations for the celebration on Saturday when they will place posters in the windows on Main Street in Waynesville and in Hazelwood. This year's Girl Scout Week ac tivities wil be built around the theme, "This Is Our Towm." Each day of the week has a special significance which will be noted at troop meetings. There are 13 troops in the Way nesville area, which is a part of the Pisgah Girl Scout Council. Mrs. Aaron Prevost U district chairman, Mrs. Jonathan Woody is acting Waynesville neighborhood chairman, and Mrs. Clyde Fisher is Hazelwood neighborhood chair man. Girl Scout Week, March 11-17. marks the 44th birthday of Girl Scouting. From one troop in 1912, the Girl Scout movement has grown to more than two and a half million. ? own.- I Mrs. Keener Is Club Hostess The Beaverdam Home Demon stration Club met at the home of Mrs. Elmer Keener Tuesday after noon with the president, Mrs. George Frady, presiding. The de votional was given by Mrs. Mark Swaim. During the business session the members discussed their project of obtaining a wheel chair for the rounty hospital and planned to take food and clothing to the Orthopedic Home in Asheville on the 20th. The club voted to make a donation to the Heart Fund Drive. Project leader reports were giv en on Food Preservation by Mrs. Lloyd Jones, Health by Mrs. George Frady, and Family Life by Mrs. Joyce Owen. Most local mem bers plan to attend at least a part of the program. Among those in Asheville today are Mrs. James L. Elwood, local chapter regent, Mrs. J. Harden Howell, Mrs. R. N. Barber, Mrs. J. Rural Health Meeting Set In Hickory 14th The Western North Carolina Regional Rural Health Conference will be held in Hickory on Wednes day, March 14, sponsored by the Medical Society of North Carolina, according to Dr. W. Wyan Wash burn, Chairman of the Society's sponsoring Committee on Rural Health. Theme of this year's conference will be "Your Health Is Your Fu ture" with featuring panel discus sions on the topics of Farm and Home Accidents as well as a spe cial demonstration by Catawba 4 H Club representatives. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Isley, Jr., honored Mrs. Isley'* father, M. H. Caldwell, with a dinner in their home on Brown Avenue Sunday. The occasion was the 74th birth day anniversary of the honor guest. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell, their children and their families as follows: Mr. and Mrs Ray Caldwell and daughter, Martha Jane, of Hazelwood; Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Health leaders will attend a Western North Carolina Sural Health Conference at the City Auditorium in Hickory on Wed nesday, March 14.
