MISS CLARA NIX of Clyde was iwonc 70 padutn at Gardner Webb College as the Baptist School observed its 49th com mencement exercises Monday morning. Miss Nix is a religlcas education major. Ratcliffe Cove VBS Announced MRS. GROVER FRANCIS > Community Reporter Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gaddy have returned to their home in Ratcliffe Cove after spending some time in Greensboro with their daughter. Vacation Bible school will be held June 4th through 13th at the Baptist church. Classes will be held each day from 9:00 to 11:30 a m. All children ages 1 through KG are invited to attend. The Rev. Gay Chambers will serve as prin cipal; Mrs. W. J. Francis, secre tary and Miss Donna Jo Blanton, in charge of music. Leaders for each group are: Nursery, Mrs. Bob Caldwell and Mrs. Grover Francis; Beginners: Mrs. Lee Gaddy, Mrs. R. G. Francis; Primaries: Mrs. Neal Webb, Mrs. Mark Palmer; Juniors: Mrs. Troy Justice, Mrs. Roy Mea dor and Intermediates: Mrs. C. T. Francis; Mrs. Algie Ratcliffe. Pre paration Day will be held Saturday, June 2, at 10 a.m. R. V. Ford is a patient at Hay wood County hospital. Little Bobby Harrison was very painfully injured on Monday morn ing when he "was accidentally hit in the eye with a green apple while waiting for the school bus. He was sent to an Asheville hos pital but is back home. The Woman's Missionary Union will meet Tuesday, June 3, at 7:30 Hi the home of Mrs. George Liner. SAM FERGUSON J Community Reporter Many people attended the oper etta at Fines Creek school Mon day night A larye number re ceived their diplomas from eighth grade and will enter high school this year. Carl Painter, teacher of the eighth grade, presented di plomas. Among those attending the exercises were farmer students of Fines Creek school who are living at various places. Mrs. Vllina Hannah White and Mrs. Ediih Parkins Woody were here from the state of Washing ton where they now make their huine. Others were here from Virginia, South Carolina and other places. Charles H. Duckett, teacher at Fines Creek High School, received his M.A degree at Western Caro lina College May 28th. Several people from Fines Creek attended the funeral of Cleveland Hipps at Spring Creek. Madison County, last Monday. Charles Haynes. son of Mr. and Mrs. Posey Haynes of Clyde RFD 1, is a patient at Haywood County Hospital. Lewis Sutton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Sutton, had the mis fortune of breaking his leg Satur day night. Five girls in the F.H.A. Club at Fines Creek received their Jr. Homemakers degree. They were Gail Bradshaw. Joretta Clark. Juanita Lowe. Millie Lou Price and Margaret Rogers. Glenn Noland is entering Hay wood Hospital Sunday, June 3. for an -operation Monday. Mrs. Pearle Brummitt will also be a patient there next week. She is scheduled for operation Tues day. June S. They will appreciate their friends remembering them with a card or visit. - I Sympathy is extended Mrs. Bob Carver in the sudden death of Mr. Carver Monday. Mrs. Bess Moody and her sister. Richard Green Tom Condi 11 FOUR HAYWOOD COUNTY STUDENTS will be graduated this weekend from Mars Hill College. They are Miss Eilen Gerringer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Gerringer of Hazelwood; Miss Janet Gail Franci*. daughter of Mr. and Nrs. Paul S. Francis of Clyde; Tom Cogdiil. son of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Cogdlll of Waynesvllle; and Rich ard Green, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Green, also of Waynesvllle. Miss Gerringer, who has maintained a scholastic average of \ throughout Tiigh school and college, was recently awarded the Business Club Medal for 1956, which is given on a basis of superior scholar ship, Christian character, pleasing personality, commendable deport ment and promise of future attainment. She has served as assistant student director of the College Young People's Sunday School De partment at the Mars Hill Church, as chaplain, treasurer, and vice president of the Nonpareil Literary Society, and as an officer in her Training Union. She was a maiorette with the band and a member of the YWA's apd Volunteers. She has pursued a course in business teac'.ier training. Miss Francis, who is taking a Liberal Arts course, is a member of the Clio Literary Society and the French Honor Club. Tom Cogdiil has been a member of the college varsity football team during his two years at Mars Hill. He is a member and officer of the Science Club and has served as college marshal. He has re ceived an,appointment to the U. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis and will leave the latter part of June lo begin his training there.
