■V P f t'V -Personal MORRISONS ENTERTAIN THE COUPLES CLUB MRS. JACK MORRIS HONORED FRIENDS CONGRATULATE BELOVED COUPLE ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON Mr. and Mrs. Charles Morrison entertained the couples club on Thursday evening at their home. There were three tables for bridge, made ..up of club members, and four guests. These guests were: Mrs. Herbert Chaney, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stone and Charles Hostetler. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, Jr., were given the prize for mak ing the highest combined score , arid Charles Hostetler was given the visitor’s prize. An ice course was served after the game. 0 — D. S. POOLE HONORED ON BIRTHDAY Mrs. A. K. Currie had all the members^, of the Poole family for dinner Thursday, August 3rd, in honor of her father, David Scott Poole, who was ninety-two years old on that date. All the children, grandchildren and in-laws were present, except Miss Isabel Be- thune, who is in Washington, D. C. Many friends of Mr. Poole, as well as members of the' family, sent him gifts to show in a small way their admiration, respect, and love for him. He appreciated it all and says that he doesn’t feel any older than he did fifteen years ago. His fellow townsmen, county and state friends wish for him many more happy birthdays. 0 WEDNESDAY CLUB MEETS with MRS. McPHAUL The Wednesday afternoon club met with Mrs. John W. McPhaul at her home last week. Only club members were present and enjoy ed a delicious dessert course soon after arrival. At the end of the game high score prize was award ed to Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, Jr.. Mrs. W. T. Gibson, Jr., won ill the bingo game that followed 'and was also given a prize. 0 McBRYDE REUNION Mrs. William Lament entertain ed at her home on Friday morning in honor of-her sister, Mrs. Jack Morris, a recent bride. Roses and dahlias were flowers used in diping room and living room, in which rooms three tables were placed for bridge. In the bridge game Mrs. Harvey Cole made highest score, and was given the prize. Mrs. Morris was given a very pretty odd piece of crystal in her pattern. At one o’clock the cards were laid aside and the tables set for lunch. A delicious luncheon was served in courses. Those enjoying this hospitality were the honoree, members of kfts. Lament’s bridge club, Mrs. Sam Morris, Mrs. Paul Dickson, Sr., Mrs. Israel Mann and Mrs. Harvey Cole. —0 MRS. MARY ROBERTS ENTERTAINS CLUB The annual McBryde reunion I will be held at the Antioch Pres- Oyterian church, Sunday, August 13. There will be a picnic lunch at the church at noon. All mem bers of the clan are invited. Mrs. Mary Roberts was hostess to her bridge club Tuesday after noon at her home on Central Avenue. Bowls of summer flow ers and greenery made an attrac- ti.ve setting for the two tables ar ranged for play on the summer veranda of the Robert’s home. During the game a frosted drink and potato chips were served. After several 'mteresting pro gressions scores were added and Mrs. Arthur D. Gore was award ed high score prize for club mem bers, and Miss Maude Poole was winner of the guest high score award. At the end of play, a dessert course was served by the hostess. Mrs. J. C. McLean and Miss Maude Poole were guests of. the club. 0 Mr. and Mrs. Peter McLean and children attended the Elliot family reunion Sunday, w'hich was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Elliot in Seventy-First town ship near Fayetteville. There was a large crowd present, who en joyed the day together and the picnic dinner. Mr. J. H. Blue spent several days this week in Fairmont in the home of her mother, Mrs. C. A. Floyd. About 2'00 friends of. Rev. and Mrs. B. P. Robinson had the plea sure of greeting them and offer-: ihg Congratulations on the occas ion of their observing their fiftieth wedding- anniversary. The chil dren of Mr. and Mrs. Robinson honored their mother and father with an At Home between the hours of 5:30 and 7:30 on the pretty lawn of their home near town, -where they and friends, assisted in welcoming and serv ing the many who called. Receiv ing at. the drive was Bob Allen, who directed to the lawn where Mrs. Ben Robinson and Mrs. E. H. Robinson greeted the guests and introduced theni to the first receiving line, which was compos ed oJ the fallowing Robinson chil dren: Mrs. Frances Davis of Greensboro, Mrs. Dabney R. Allen, Fayetteville, Mrs. James E. Har kins of Pekin, .Ill., Ben Robinson and Earl H. Robinson of Raeford. Rev. and Mrs. P. O. Lee in troduced guests to the second re ceiving line composed of Mr. and Mrs. Robinson and Mx's. Robin son’s two sisters, Mrs. Duke How ell and Mrs. Frank Tew. Mrs. David Blue of Concord directed to the refreshment table, where punch was served by Mrs. Mar shall Thomas and Mrs. Benton Thomas. The table, placed on the side lawn, 'with a blooming crepe myrtle tree as a background, was centered with an arrangement of yellow glads, yellow dahlias and- fern. The crystal punch bowl was on one end of the table and the cake topped with a golden wed ding bell'on the opposite end. Yellow mints in silver compotes were also on the table. Misses Shirley and Nellie Allen, Bettie Davis, and Earl and Bennie Rob inson, grandchildren served. Serv ing was directed by Mrs. Lacy McFadyen and - Misses Margaret Gainey and Eloise McLauchlin. After being served guests were directed by Mrs. "Williams, a niece of the couple from Roseboro. to the register, which was presided over by Mrs. Charlie Walker and Mrs. Ernest Maxwell of Fayette ville, cousins of the family. Good byes were said by Mrs. H. A. Cameron and Mrs. Lewis Parker the ^i^st hour, and by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Upchurch, the last hour. The occasion was a most happy one. The afternoon was perfect, the honored couple was gracious and appreciative of the attention shown them and the “bride” look ed lovely in a becoming dress and wearing a corsage of yellow rose buds. They received numerous useful and valuable gifts, in spite of the fact that they had request ed no gifts. The callers indulged in reminiscing and the two hours of good fellowship passed all too quickly. Mr. Robinson, who is a former pastor of the Raeford Methodist church, built a home near Rae ford and came here to live when he was retired. He is a native of Cumberland County and his wife, the former Miss "Victoria Tew, is a native of Sampson County and daughter of the late Rev. John O. Tew. They were married in Fay etteville, February 12, 1900. Unto them have been born' seven chil dren, five of whom are living. There are eleven grandchildren.. Among the out of town people calling in addition to those men tinned were: Mrs. John Brantley Hooks, Mrs. Beulah Hooks Scott, Mrs. Frank Musgrove, Miss Bebe Flowers of Fremont; Rev. and Mrs. "V.'E., -Queen, Mr. and Mrs. S D. Driggers and Mrs. Watson Lawhon of Fayetteville; Dr. Gad dy Matheson of Ahoskie; Mrs. E. F. Blue and Miss Elizabeth Blue of Parkton; Jame.s Harkins of Pekin, Ill., Dabney R. Allen, Ern est Maxwell, Charlie Walker of Fayetteville, Mr. and Mrs. J. Austin Rogers and daughter, Pan sy,of Cary; Mrs. R. A. Whitaker, Enfield; Mrs. James A. Doggett. Greensboro; and Mrs. Harold E. The dinner party wms given at the Thomas home, which looked lovely for the occasion, with pas tel flowers tastefully - arranged, and a background for the six tables, which were attractively ap pointed. Each table was centered with .a miniature bowl of sweet heart roses and places were mark ed iwth hand painted reflectors; the bride-elect's being marked with a corsage of roses. A dinner in several courses was enjoyed. The tables were then cleared a n d bingo was played with a number of prizes being given. Miss Cole's gift was silver. Those invited to this affair were young friends and relatives of the couple. Coming from out-of-town were: Mr. and Mrs. John C. Hughes qf Parkton, Dr. and Mrs. Willis, Dr. and Mrs. Hiatt and Miss Toomer of the Sanatorium at McCain. 0 Lt. and Mrs. Partridge left Sat urday for a three week’s vacation, which they will spend on the beach in New York State and Raeford Kiwanis Club Thursdays at 6:30 High School Cafeteria Mr. and Mrs, Robert Rockholz w'ill have the apartment with Mrs. Paul Dickson, Sr., which Lt. and Mrs. Partridge had. Mr. Rockholz is the new assistant coach and science teacher in Hoke County High School He is a world war veteran, is from Connecticut and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, and has made his home a1? P. Trexler and children, who have made their home at Camp Lejune for the past several years, arrived in Raeford last week and will make their home with Mrs. Trexler’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Moris, while Sgt Trex ler is overseas. Petey Dickson left Monday for Savannah Ga. Paul Dickson met him there and took him to Camp Stewart where he is spending this week with his buddies of the local National Guard, who are in camp there. Mrs. Chester Wade, Lavin.ia and Jim, left Tuesday for Oxford to spend two weeks with Mrs. Wade’s mother, Mrs. R. L. Dixon, while Mr. Wade is in camp at Camp Stewart. Mrs. D. Mc'Vicker and son, John, of , Portsmouth, "Virginia, visited friends and relatives in Raeford last week. Mrs. Luke Bethune and Miss Peggy Bethune left this morning for Washington, D. C., to visit Miss Isabel Bethune. They were accompanied by Mrs. J. W. Thomas of Ft. Lauderdale, who is visiting Mrs. Tommie Upchurch and who will visit a friend in Washington. While in Washington, Mrs. Be thune and Miss Bethune will at tend Paul Green’s pageant, “Faith of Our Fathers.” Mrs. L.
