Guard's Bragg 'Visit' No Vacation
by Staff Sgt. June* C. Clark
The Raeford National Guard
Unit just completed its two weeks
of annual training which was held
at Fort Bragg. North Carolina.
The unit. Headquarters and
He'adquarters Company of the
2nd Medium Tank Battalion.
252nd Armor, joined in a combined
arms field training exercise with the
30th Infantry Brigade.
The Battalion, commanded by
Lt. Col. George T. Paris of Red
Springs, consists of Headquarters
and Headquarters Company, with
Detachment I. located in Red
Springs; three tank companies: and
a combat support company. The
tank companies are from Laurin
burg. Southern Pines and Sanford.
Combat Support Company is from
Albemarle.
Headquarters and Headquarters
Company's function is to supply
maintenance, ammunition, food,
medical support, clerical support
and forward observer support for
the line or fighting companies. The
unit is commanded by Captain.
A.B. Dickson. Jr.
Contrary to tK belief that the
National Guard has just had a
two- week vacation, the training was
rigid and demanding. The tanks
were firing live ammunition, to
include the new round called
SABOT, which can destroy any
known armored vehicle on today's
battle fields. The mortars were
firing highly explosive projectiles.
The small arms that the soldiers
carried were real. The medics
treated real injuries, even though
there were no major injuries.
Capt. A.B. Dickson. Jr.. Head
quarters Company Commander,
said that he would like to commend
the families and employees of all
the members of the National
Guard.
"You are to be commended for
the sacrifices that you endure for
the two weeks and the weekends
that your family members and
employees are in training." he said.
"You should be proud that they are
part of North Carolina's finest."

IMPORTANT: ACREAGE
REPORTS
It is extremely important that
local farmers report all crops
planted on their farms by June 14.
It is also important that all farmers
file acreage reports, regardless of
whether the farm is participating or
not and whether there is an acreage
of the program crop planted or not.
Those acreage reports filed by
non-participating farmers will be
an important factor in determining
1983 acreage bases.
Please visit the ASC Office and
report your acreages as soon as
possible after planting. Accuracy in
reporting program and marketing
quota crops is important to help
insure full program benefits and
price support.
TOXAPHENE. DDT. TDE.
ENDRIN
Tobacco producers are reminded
that the use of toxaphene. DDT,
TDE or endrin on flue-cured
tobacco will cause the farm to be
ineligible for price support. The
producer must certify concerning
the use of toxaphene, DDT. TDE
and endrin before receiving a
marketing card.
{? ^Hfcldom samples will be drawn
at warehouses for analysis purpose
to determine levels of their chemi
cals.
ASCS
36th ANNUAL MEETING
On May 28, the 36th Annual

served a complimentary barbecue
lunch.
Featured speakers for the meet
ing will be Congressman Charles O.
Whitley and Congressman Charles
G. Rose.
MEASUREMENT SERVICE
It is not to late for those
producers interested to request
measurement service for an official
determination of acreage. This
service is not only extremely bene
ficial in computing marketing
quota crop acreage but program
crop and conservation use acreage
as well.
Like certification of crops, re
quests for measurement service
must be made no later than June
14.
