April 11 COMMUNITY MEETING - The Cameron Heights Com munity Center Advisory Board will hold a public meeting to discuss problems that are most prevalent in the community. John Peterson's Cantata "Hallelujah, What a Saviour," will be presented at the church at 7 p.m. April IS EASTER MUSICAL - The Adult Choir of the First Baptist Church of Raeford will present the Easter musical, "Joy Comes in the Morning" by David Danner. The musical drama will be presented in the church sanctuary at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday night, April 15. The public is invited to come and experience the power of the story of Easter: "experiences of sorrow turned to joy." The musical is under the direction of Rev. N. Parnell, Stale Senator from the 30th Senatorial District composed of Robeson and Hoke Counties, will be the keynote speaker at the Hoke Coun ty Democratic Convention on Saturday. April 14, at I p.m. The convention will be held at the Hoke County Courthouse in the Courtroom. Heading the convention's agenda will be the election of delegates to the district and state conventions and the considera tion of any resolutions. "The county convention is an important link in the series of Democratic conventions leading from the precinct up to the national convention, " Chairman Harold Gillis noted. April 28 OPEN HOUSE - The annual Pope AFB-Fort Bragg Open House has been scheduled for April 28 on the Pope flightline. Gates will open at 9 a.m. and there is no charge for admis sion. Highlighting this year's events will be a precision flying demonstration by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Aerial Demonstration Team from Nellis AFB., Nev., and a parachute demonstration by the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team from Fort Bragg May 3 POPS CONCERT -- The Fayetteville Symphonic Band will present a "Pops" concert at Reeves Auditorium, Methodist College, Fayetteville at 8 p.m. on May 3. May S THE EMBERS LIVE - The North Carolina-based Embers will be performing a selection of beach and pop music at the old National Guard Armory grounds Saturday, May 5 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. in conjunc tion with the Hoke Heritage Hobnob. May 10-12 CRAWFISH FESTIVAL - The fourth annual South Carolina Crawfish festival and Aquaculture Fair will begin in Pawley's Island Thursday May 10 and will continue until Saturday, May 12. Entertain ment, which includes musi cians, dancers, food and games for everyone, will be "non stop" from noon until 5 p.m. on May 10 and from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. May 11 aad 12. The festival highlights the first commercial crawfish harvest. Crawfish, prepared in a variety of ways, will be served throughout the festival. The public is urged to attend. April 12-15 GODSPELL - The musical adaptation of the Gospel accor ding to Matthew, will be presented April 12-15 by the Highland Players of St. An drews Presbyterian Church. This heartwarming musical which is based on the story of Noah and the Ark star red Danny Kaye in the lead role on Broadway. The action takes place before, during and after the Flood. A buffet dinner is served before the show. The play will run each week Thurs day through Sunday with a special Wednesday evening per formance on April 18. The race will start at II a.m. at the 18th Field Artillery Brigade headquarters on Fort Bragg's Ardennes Street. It will end on Green Street in downtown Fayetteville after winding through Fort Bragg's woodland areas and some of the most scenic parts of Fayet teville. Entry fee for the marathon, which is co sponsored by the 18th field Ar tillery Brigade and the Fayet teville Area Runners' Associa tion, is $6 before April 23 and S8 afterward until the entry cutoff dale of April 30. Donations of new or used appliances, fur niture, lamps, etc. will be ac cepted from April 12-30 at the Children's Center at 115 West Donaldson Avenue. No clothing donations are needed Auctioneer Danny DeVane will conduct the auction on the parking lot of the First Baptist Church in May. A date for the auction will be given at a later date. April 14 CANCELLATION - The an nual Alumnae Day for Flora Macdonald College scheduled for April 14 has been cancelled. Reaching peak Dogwoods around the Hoke County area are reaching their peak blooms this week. Most have filled out in white, pink and red splendor. However, '? rn this McCain area tree seems to have a little catching up to do. Heritage home tour lining up A "Heritage Home tour," featuring historical homes and landmarks throughout the county, will be held in conjunction with the Hoke Heritage Hobnob festival slated for May 4 and 5. The tour will be held the day before the Hobnob and will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 3. All those interested should meet at the Raeford Presbyterian Church parking lot, the site of the old Raeford Institute. Tours will include the McLauchlin-Stevens home, the McLauchlin Cemetery and site of the college, Bollero, Bethel Church, the Reverend Hector McNeill home, the Mill Prong house, the McPhaul Mill site, An tioch Church, the Glen Echo School House and the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Gatlin. Tickets for the activity bus tour will be $3 in advance and $3.50 after April 27. Funds mounting for Hobnob Contributions are mounting for the Hoke Heritage Hobnob festival scheduled for May 4 and 5. However more funds are needed to insure that the event, which has been organized to promote Hoke County, will be self-sustaining in the future. Organizers of the Hobnob hope to expand its scope each year. In order to be self-sustaining in the future, the festival needs help in its first year.
