Sports Recreation Bits 6:30 7:15 8:00 8:45 9:30 Adult and youth football leagues The Recreation Department will be offering three football leagues this fall: Men's Flag, Youth Flag, and Midget Tackle. The men's league will be open to current ninth graders and up. The organizational meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 5 at 7 p.m. in the Recreation Office (Old National Guard Armory). All interested teams must have a representative present. The youth flag league is open to all boys and girls ages 7-9. You must turn 7 before October 1, or must turn 10 on or after April 1, 1984 to be eligible to participate. The first practice ses sion will take place at Armory Park at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, September 10. Birth certificates are required for those who did not play in the T-Ball and Bambino Baseball Leagues this sum mer. The midget football league is open to all youth ages 10-14 years. You must turn 10 before October 1, 1984, or you must turn 14 on or after April 1, 1984. Also, you must weigh at least 65 pounds and not more than 125 pounds. Physicals are required for each participant before being allowed to practice. A $6 in surance fee is charged for each participant in midget football, and should be paid at the time of registration. The opening prac tice will be held at Armory Park at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4. Birth certificates are required for those who didn't play T-Ball or Bambino Baseball this summer. Youth football physicals All youth interested in playing midget football are required to obtain physicals. The Hoke County Health Department will be giving physicals to interested participants on Tuesdays ONLY, on the following dates: August 21, 28 and September 4, 11, 18,. 25" and October 2 from 1-4 p.m. APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED! Parent or legal quar dian must accompany the child. You must bring your shot record if you have not previously visited the Health Department. Physical forms can be picked up from the Refreation Office. The Health Department will NOT have the physical forms. Flea market The Recreation Department is sponsoring a Flea Market on Saturday, August 18 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Old Na tional Guard Armory. The first 30 to pay the $5 registration fee will be allowed to participate. Call 5-4035 for more information. Golf tourney for Heart Assoc. set for Mid-Pines on Friday The championship of the Southern National Bank/Ameri can Heart Association Golf Tour nament will be held at Mid-Pines Resort Aufust 17-19, according to SNB Executive Vice President James F. Byrne. The Carolinas section of the Professional Golfers Association has sanctioned the tournment and will pair professional golfers with the nearly SO local teams which qualified for the championship by winning their city's lo<?l qualify ing event. This tournament is the sixth renewal of the event which has raised more than SI 25 ,000 in its first five years. Money raised through the local amateur tournaments has been donated to the Heart Association to support research, public health education, professional education and community services. Thirty-two local tournaments have been held to qualify teams for the Pro- Am Championship, more than in any preceding year. Tournaments with more than 24 local teams entered were allowed two teams in the championship rounds. Little Giants This young team, sponsored hy Economy Enterprises, has not had as much success as some of the other teams, but they have tried just as hard. Their record is 4 and 8.
