Sports Rheames carries team . At a Girls' Sectional Track Meet ' held at Pinecrest High School last Thursday, Hoke High School stu ; dimt Toni Rheames placed first in three events and landed second in a fourth. Rheames placed first in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 1 1 in ches. In the 200 meter dash, a time of 25.58 seconds was good enough to beat all comers. She also won the 400 meter dash in one just over a minute. Her time was 60.5 seconds. In the 100 meter dash, a run tim ed at 12.34 seconds took second place for the Hoke team. Rheames scored all of Hoke High's 38 points. She has been named to compete in the Regional Track Meet coming up this Friday at Wilson Fike High School. She will compete in all four events. From that meet, the top four contenders will travel to the State Track Meet on May 24 at North Carolina State University. Carpenter leads Bucks toward regional meet Terrell Carpenter wreaked revenge on Lumberton's Tim Worley in the 100 meter dash as Hoke High School's Boys' Track Team finished fourth in last Friday in the North Carolina sectionals. "The team has done a real good job this year. They have a lot of talent and a lot of heart," Track Coach Howard Barkley said. According to Barkley, Carpenter led the Bucks at the meet by setting two sectional records and winning those events. The sweetness of a record setting 24 foot, 6.5 inch long jump could only be bettered by avenging two losses in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.2 seconds. According to Barkley, that run set another record with the Hoke High junior's name on it. Other standouts from Hoke High included Don Woods who set a personal best in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9 minutes, 42.19 seconds. Woods placed a close third in that event. John Baker placed fourth in the 200 meters, according to Barkley. The 800 meter relay team made a couple of mistakes that slowed them down, but the team still placed second finishing just behind Dunn High School. The 400 meter relay team "got back on the winning track" as they set another school record with a team time of 43.02 seconds, according to the coach. The following team members qualifies for the regionals this Fri day: Carpenter, Baker, Woods, Davey Cunningham, Joseph Allbrooks and Marco Pickett.
