DEADLINES: Weddings &. Engagements, Thursday 5 p.m. Other Social Items, Monday 5 p.m. Couple marries Aug. 1 7 Cheryl Anne Burr and Roland Eugene Furr Jr., both of Concord, were united in marriage on Satur day, August 17, at 3 p.m. in West Concord Baptist Church. The Rev. William D. Byrd officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grady William Burr Sr., of Concord. She is a rising junior at Central Cabarrus. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Eugene Furr Sr., of Raeford, the bridegroom is a 1980 graduate of Hoke County High School and at tended East Carolina University. He is employed by Davey Tree Ex pert Co., Charlotte. Wedding music was provided by Lynn Hunsucker, organist, and Trena Furr, soloist. The program included "Through the Eyes of Love," "You Needed Me," and "The Wedding Prayer." Escorted by her father, Grady Burr, the bride wore a formal white gown of peau de soie featur ing a ruffled fordered apron effect on the front. Motifs of chantilly lace were appliqued around the border of the apron. A ruffle and chantilly lace appliques accented the hemline of the dress and chapel length train. The long full sleeves were ruffled and laced at the wrist. The fingertip veil of illusion was appliqued with chantilly lace. The bride also wore pearl earrings. She carried a cascade of pink and white mini-carnations, english ivy, lavender poms, and baby's breath. The bride chose her sister, Mrs. Jenny Gooden, of Chesterfield, South Carolina as her matron of honor. She wore a gown of white lace over lavender with an off-the shouldcr effect, ruffled back and hemline. She carried a nosegay of lavender, pink and white carna tions, poms and gypsophila. Attired similarly were bridesmaids Mrs. Ann Furr of Concord, sister of the groom and Miss Terri Alexander of China Grove. Miss Lindsey Burris of Concord, cousin of the bride was the flower girl. Mrs. Sherry Burris, cousin of the bride, of Concord attended the guest register. Roland Eugene Furr Sr., father of the groom, was best man. Ushers were Craig Furr of Con cord, brother-in-law of the bride groom, and Lance Furr of Con cord, cousin of the groom. Master Neal Gooden of Chester field, South Carolina, nephew of the bride, was ringbearer. The bride's parents hosted a reception in the fellowship hall of the church. Mrs. Coy P. Furr of Concord, aunt of the bride, served the wedding cake. Mrs. John Alex ander of China Grove presided at the punch bowl. Assisting were Miss Helen Simpson and Mrs. Dot Sigmon, both of Concord. Mrs. Roland Eugene Furr Jr. A rehearsal dinner was held in honor of the couple Friday in the church fellowship hall. The bride groom's parents were hosts. After their wedding trip to the South Carolina coast, the couple will reside on Virginia Avenue in Concord. Presbyterian women host study session The Women of the Church of Raeford Presbyterian Church are sponsoring a special 10-week study of the Book of Revelations. Miss I. Ruth Martin will be teaching this class on Wednesday nights begin ning September 11. Miss Martin, who has recently retired from thirty-two years as a professor of Religion at Pembroke State University, is well known in this area as an outstanding Bible scholar and teacher. Miss Martin's education includ ed graduate work at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. She is listed in Personalities of the South and Outstanding Educators of America. She receiv ed the Bible Teacher of the Year Award in 1975. Miss Martin has written 27 Bible Study workbooks and conducted 13 workshops and tours of the Holy Land. The sponsors of this study wish to invite anyone in our community who is interested to attend. Mrs. Mary Benkosky, Mrs. Her man Koonce, Miss Nellie McFa dyen and Mrs. Lawrence Barnard went to Cheraw, South Carolina Tuesday of last week. A reception was held Tuesday from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. in Fayet teville to honor Miss North Carolina, Joni Bennett Parker of the Galatia Community who is leaving to participate in the "Miss America Pageant" in Atlantic City, New Jersey. E-5 William Anthony "Billy" Kokoruda, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Kokoruda who is in the Air Force stationed in tacoma, Washington spent a month recent ly in Egypt on special duty. *** Capt. Timothy Blevins, nephew of Mrs. Alton McCulloch who was stationed at Fort Bragg spent Wednesday night of last week with Mr. and Mrs. Alton McCulloch before leaving for California. The Adcox-Frye family reunion was held Sunday, September 1 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rene Bela in Fayetteville. Approximate ly 50 family members attended. Games were enjoyed and a short business meeting was called and officers were elected for the com ing year. A covered dish luncheon was spread and a good time was had by all. Family cookout held On Sunday, September 1, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bunce were hosts for a cook -out at their Route 4 Fayetteville home for members of Mr. and Mrs. Bunce's family. Those who attended were: Mrs. Mae Pittman of Rockfish; Hazel Tucker of Arabia; Jimmy, Judy and Melissa of Rockfish; Glenn and Shelby Upton of Camden; Lucille Hubbard of Rocky Mount; James and Dorothy Ayers of Cheasapeake, Va.; Johnny, Sylvia B. and Michael Gregory of Fayet teville; Charles, Phoebe and Matt Tucker of Raeford; and Jean Long of Raeford. The dinning table was decorated with a watermelon basket with melon balls and other fruits. The hosts served barbequed chicken, peas, green beans, corn, potato salad, ham, cake and iced tea. Baby contest taps winners St. Mary Christian Pentecostal Holy Church sponsored a Baby Contest on the second Sunday in August. Winners were: Warren Jones Jr., first place; Sharee Ross, se cond place; and Zsharkira Jervon Love, third place.
