Sept. 20-22 BOAT SHOW -- The 7th Annual Norfolk In-The-Water Boat Show is scheduled for Friday through Sunday, Sept. 20 through 22. The show will move to the finest in-the-water boat show site in the United States - the new Waterside Marina adjacent to the Waterside Festival Marketplace of shops and restaurants developed by the Rouse Company in downtown Norfolk, Virginia. Hours for the show are Friday, noon to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for children, ages 12 and under. SINGING PROGRAM -- The "Diamond Jubilee's" of Bennettsville, South Carolina, will be at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Sunday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. Sept. 23 AUDITIONS -- The Fayetteville Little Theatre announces auditions for the first show of its 23rd season, "The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas," which will play for four weeks in November. A big, bouncy, sometimes bawdy musical comedy recounting the good times and demise of Miss Mona's Chicken Ranch - long tolerated, secretly relished and certainly patronized by the citizens of Gilbert, Texas. Needed are adult male and female dancers, singers and actors. Auditions will be held Sept. 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the FLT. Sept. 26-29 MULE DAYS - The 36th Annual Mule Days will be held in Benson. The events range from Mule pulilng to a street dance. Everyone is invited. Sept. 28 B1KE-A-THON -- A bike-a-thon will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 1 a.m. start ing at Hoke High School. The event will aid the Leukemia Society of America. FAIR - A traveling circus show and a beauty pageant will highlight this year's 39th running of the Robeson County Agricultural and Industrial Fair. The fair, which attracted last year more than 60,000 people from Robeson and surrounding counties, will be held Sept. 30-0ct. 5 at the fairgrounds on N.C. 41 in Lumberton. Other fair features and events include: Hog Show, Hog Calling-Corn Shucking-Com Shelling contests, Old Country Fair Night, Chain Saw Cutting Contest, Diaper Derby, Bobby McLamb and the Pilgrims, Gospel Concert, Ladies Mud Wrestling, Midnight Madness, Sky Divers, High School Cheerleaders contest, McDonald's Day, 4-H and FFA Tractor Driving Contest, Battle of the Bands, Children's Day, Wet T-Shirt Contest, Square Dance Exhibition, Senior Citizens Day, 4-H Poultry Sale, Bikes and Pepsi Drawings. Oct. 5, 6 FLORA MACDONALD HIGHLAND GAMES - The 9th annual Flora Macdonald Highland Games will be held Oct. 5 and 6 on the Humphrey farm located off Highway 71 in Shannon. Oct. 12 CRAFTSMEN, ARTISTS WANTED - The Wadesboro People Fest on Saturday, Oct. 12, is ex pected to draw over 12,000 people to downtown Wadesboro, about 60 miles southeast of Charlotte, on U.S. Highway 74. Live entertainment, barbecue, fireworks, a children's art center and demonstrations are some of the planned highlights. Plan now to reserve booth space and to sell ? your handmade crafts and artwork. Twelve-foot -wide booth spaces cost $15 for the day. Electrici ty is available for another $15. Applications must be submitted by Sept. 15. Highland games Flora MacdonaU's Fancy Is among the dances per formed In the Highland Dance Competition held dur ing the Flora Macdonald Highland Games, October 5 and 6 In Red Springs. Highland Games start Oct. 5 When the Scottish Highlanders came to America they brought with them their athletic and danc ing customs. And whether you're of Scottish heritage or no you can enjoy competitions that have been passed down through the years at the annual Flora Macdonald Highland Games being held on Saturday and Sunday, October 5 and 6. The games are again being held on the Humphrey farm located four miles outside of Red Springs just off Highway 71 in Shannon. Watch for a free youth's ticket to this year's Highland Games which will be on neck ringers on bottles of Coca-cola in most super markets beginning September 23. The ticket will be good for one admission of those 12 and hiwW to this annual event. Tickets purchased in advance are S4 each for adults, good for both days. They will be $5 at the gate. Tickets for those 6 to 18 pur chased in advance are SI each, good for both days and will be $2 at the gate. Children under six are admitted free. There will be entertainment for the whole family. The gates will open at 9 a.m. on Saturday and many events are also scheduled for Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. There will be arts and crafts demonstrations and sales along with concessions. One can also browse and shop at the Scottish Vendor booths for the best in woolens, jewelry and ac cessries as well as purchase foods native to Scotland. Saturday you can watch the competitions in Highland dancing and athletic events - native to Scotland including the tossing of the caber and the putting of the stone. There will be pipe band competi tion and individual competition in piping and drumming.
