Mitchell October 12, Gloria Jean Prevatte and Perry Walker Russell were married atop Mt. Mitchell in ^western North Carolina. The bride, whose mother and step father are Jackie and Ben Haddon of Raeford, is a graduate of Maxton High School. She received her M.B.A. from East Carolina University in 1983. She is employed by North Carolina Farm Bureau in Raleigh. The groom's mother and step father are Georgia and Garlan | Lambert of Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Jacksonville Episcopal High School, received a B.A. from Peiffer College, and a M.S. from East Carolina Universi ty. He is employed by the Biochemistry Department of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The bride was escorted along the trail to the summit by the groom. |She wore a tea-length dress of ivory la?e and carried an arm bou quet of gardenias and rose buds. Family and friends were gathered there to hear the vows. The Rev. Samuel Brown of Rockingham officiated. He challenged the couple to maintain their high expectations. He read a pledge written by the bride and groom. Thrv then exchanged tradi tional wedding vows. The wedding party and guests went down the mountain to a brunch hosted by parents of the bride and groom in Albert's Bavarian Restaurant. After a wedding trip to the Smokey Mountain National Park, the couple will live in Raleigh. Friends and family members ? from six seaboard states gathered for the wedding. Guests from Raeford were Mr. and Mrs. John McDiarmid and their son Kenny, Dr. and Mrs. R.G. Townsend, Mr. and Mrs. Dick White, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wood. COOK OUT HONORS COUPLE Gloria Jean Prevatte and Perry Walker Russell were honored at a cook-out at Sinclair's pond on Oc tober S. Barbequed chicken, tossed salad, baked potatoes, french bread, and pound cake were served to the sixteen guests. The bride-elect was given a wheat corsage and several small appliances by the hostesses. Hosting the party were Mrs. Mildred Maxwell, Mrs. Sarah Wood, Mrs. Martha Maxwell, and Mrs. Ann Bundy. ?Parkers celebrate 50th Sunday, Oct. 27, Mr. and Mrs. James D. Parker celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Memorial Park Wesleyan Church in Thomasville. Mr. and Mrs. Parker were mar ried Oct. 26, 1935 in Dillon, South Carolina. P Hosting the event were their three children. Mrs. Charles (Ann) Goodman of Raeford, James (Bobby) Cox and Sara Morgan Loflin of Thomasville. Assisting with the serving were the couple's two nieces, Mrs. William (Doris) Benton of Trinity and Mrs. Elmer (Marilyn) Kearney of Sophia. Mr. Parker retired in August 1980 from Thomasville Furniture Industries of Thomasville. Mrs. Parker is a housewife. They live on Carolina Ave. in Thomasville. Attending the couple's celebra tion were their eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Out of town guests attended from Whiteville, Raeford, Elizabeth Ci ty and Winston-Salem. N.C. 28178 Phone (75-6146 Woman's Club Education Garden Public Affairs The Arts The Woman's Club of Raefora won the coveted "Cooperation and Involvement Award" when the District Nine Fall Meeting of the North Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs met in Raeford on Thursday. The meeting, hosted by the Woman's Club and the Raeford Junior Woman's Club, was held in the Raeford Presbyterian Church. District President Patti Simmons of Sanford presided for the business meeting which included the presentation of awards and reports and addresses by Slate NCFWC Officers. State President Betty Weathers encouraged Clubwomen to say "Yes, we can!" to responsibility, obligation, and duty. She used an example of filling pages with good work to remind her listeners how they could make their lives rich with good service. NCFWC Third Vice-President and Director of Juniors Julie Hill spoke with enthusiasm on how to best report Club projects and ac tivities. The Hoke High Chorale, under Anne Dorsey's direction, sang dur ing the registration and coffee hour. The meeting adjourned at noon. The State officers were guests for lunch at the Edinborough Restaurant with Woman's Club President Darlene Clark, several Raeford clubwomen, and a few out-of-town guests. On Saturday, the Arts Depart ment of the Woman's Club went to the N. C. Museum of Art in Raleigh. Department members saw the visiting video, sculpture, and photography exhibits and spent time in the permanent collections. The group had lunch in the restaurant of the museum. Some of the members stopped in Pinehurst on the way home to speak to Harriette Mauney who is a member of the Department.
