News From the Dobson, June 17.—Miss Edythe Reece left Sunday for Radford, Va., where she will attend summer school at the East Radford College Train ing School. She was accompanied by Mrs. Emma Reece MOck, Miss Eva Hancock, Miss Grace Burrus and Mrs. C. G. Comer, who spent the day driving through the beautiful hills and valleys of Virginia. Mrs. Fletcher Harris and Miss Helen Jlarkrader spent last week in Greensboro with their aunt, Miss Lillian Harkrader, who returend with them to Dobson Saturday for the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Knuckles and child ren, Blair, Gray and Phyllis, of Scottsville, Alleghany county, spent last week-end with the family of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Taylor. Miss Euzelia Smart, of the Relief Office, of North Wilkesboro, spent Friday in Dobson on business at the relief office. Mr. and Mrs. Ivey Rogers spent Saturday in Winston-Salem, on busi ness. Hugh Comer, of Wilkesboro, was in Dobson Thursday on legal busi ness. Miss Lexie Creed, of Sparta, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Fred Hill. O. H. Hauser, of Westfield, filled his regular appointment at the Baptist church Sunday morning and evening. Mr. and Mrs. John Madan, of Chester, Penn., arrived Sunday even ing and will spend some time visit ing the family of Mr. and Mrs. D. Marion, parents of Mrs. Madan. Oscar and Charley Calloway and Ester Cockerham, of Mountain Park, were in Dobson Saturday on legal business. Miss Julia Comer spent part of last week in Mount Airy with her aunt, Mrs. John Woltz. Mrs. Wendell Stone and children, Ed and Joe returned Friday from Polkton, where they have been visit ing relatives for some time. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Swanson, of Pilot Mountain, spent Sunday with Dr. and Mrs. W. M. Stone. Miss Ila Marion, of Winston- Salem, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Marion. Members of Gentry Family Meet Sunday About seventy-five members of the Gentry family gathered at the old Gentry homestead on Big Elkin creek, near Shoaly Branch church, Sunday and enjoyed a chicken stew. Member? of the family from a dis tance at Lending were: kuxus Gen try and family and Ralph Gentry, of Winston-Salem; Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Gentry and Harvey Gentry and family, of Boonville, and Charlie Gentry and family of Mount Airy. The event was so enjoyable that it was decided to make it an annual affair. • Rusk News Rev. and Mrs. T. M. Chandler, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Chandler and Miss Hurley May Chandler spent Sunday in Wilkes county. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Poy, of Stokes dale, spent several days here last week with Mrs. Foy's mother, Mrs. R. A. Jenkins. Sunday visitors here were Mr. and Mrs. Luther Isaacs, of Zephyr; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Isaacs, of Albemarle, Judge Carter, of Winston-Salem; Miss Ima Mounce, of Zephyr, and Rev. L. Johnson and father, of North Wilkesboro. Miss Doris Martin has returned from a two weeks' visit to relatives at East Bend. Mrs. Emma Cockerham, of Ashe boro, is visiting relatives and friends in this section. Mrs. S. W. Bullin and son, Marsh all, visited her sister at Rockford last Friday and Saturday. Messrs. Carmel Mounce, W. V. Holder and John T. White have been appointed to survey the tobac co acreage in this township and be gan work Monday morning. Miss Mary Isaacs, of Zephyr, visited her sister, Mrs. Wendell Wil moth here the first df the week. Mrs. Lelia Stallings and family, of Portsmouth, Va., have been visit ing relatives and friends in this sec tion. Mrs. Robert Parlier and daughter Jean, of Winston-Salem, and Mrs. Ervin Key, of Ronda, were here a while Saturday. R. A. Jenkins and granddaughter Bessie Ruth Jackson, of Winston- Salem, spent Sunday here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Sneed. Rev. L. P. Johnson, of North Wilkesboro, filled his regular ap pointment here at the Little Rich mond Baptist church. This finishes oßev; Mr. Johnson's year's work here as pastor. Rev. L. B. Murray, of State Road was elected to succeed him. Mrs. Zeb Thompson and small son, Vance, of Devotion, were visitors here Tuesday. Swan Creek News Farmers in this section are busy harvesting their wheat. They report a fairly good crop. The Swan Creek choir is practic ing for the fifth Sunday singing which will be held with this church the 30th of June. Thieves are getting bold in this community. Someone entered the milk houses of Mrs. Vina Swaim and Mrs. Paul Pinnix Friday night and took a large quantity of milk and butter. Worth Vestal, of Winston-Salem, spent the week-end here the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Har rison Vestal. Mrs. Lizzie Hays and children, of Sparta, spent a few days here last week the guests of relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Swaim spent Sunday at Cycle, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Myers. Miss Winona Stroud «p«nt the week-end in the Dennysville com munity, the guest of her cousin, Miss Anna Sue Gray. Mrs. W. B. Wellborn, of Jonesville, spent last Sunday here the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Ray Cheek. Friendship News Friendship Sunday school witnes sed a wonderful day Sunday in its attendance and other features. It reached its highest mark yet with an attendance of 131. Father's Day was observed by an interesting and beautiful program, with Wilma Hol brook and Inez Caudle representing the red and white roses. Following the program Rev. Frank Weather man spoke on the following subject: "The Value of Women in the Church." Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gentry were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hampton. Miss Angelle and Bessie Hampton attended an ice cream supper Sat urday night at the home of their uncle at Level Cross. Mr. and Mrs. Burdette Gentry were the Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. L.
