They were called Wednesday on ac count of the serious illness of their father. J. E. Boles, at the Hugh Chatham hospital. He is improving some but is still very sick. Mrs. Reece Cockerham and daughter. Sharon Lynn, of Win ston-Salem, are spending an in definite time with iier mother, Mrs. T. W. Pardue. Rev. W. C. Darnell, of Thomas ville, preached at the Arlington church last Sunday at the morn ing and evening services. All en joyed his message. Rev. and Mrs. D. G. Reece and Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Holcomb vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Henry Reece. of Boonville, on Sunday after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Casey, Miss Baby Brown. "Penny" Brown, Miss Beulah Beard. Willie Kazalr, of Boone, visited friends here on Sunday. Mr. Weymouth Vestal spent the first part of the week in Colum bia. S. C. Mr. S. G. Holcomb and V. L. Renegar made a business trip to Winiton-Salem on Tuesday. Mrs. M. A. Holcomb was the week-end guest of Mrs. V. Press wood, of Winston-Salem. Mrs. Plinie Osborne and sons. Wade and Calvin, and Olean Tal-- ley were guests of Miss Hattie Jenkins on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Quincy Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Ivry Johnson attended the funeral of the former's grandson, Johnnie Tree lv Johnson, held at the Round Mountain church on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Jamie A. Frye underwent a very serious operation at Davis hospital on Monday. Her friends wish for her a speedy Recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Rose and family visited Mr. and Mrs. Jim mie Mcßride and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Burcham in Hickory last Sunday. Mrs. Rose's mother, Mrs. Edd Mcßride. accompanied them home to spend an indefinite time with them. Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Stout, of Union community, spent Friday here attending to business mat ters. A number of friends from here attended the funeral of William Miller Cheeks at the M. E. church at Longtown on Sunday after noon. Clay Felts was able to return to his home from Triplett clinic on Saturday after undergoing a tonsil operation on Friday. Hugh Lyons and children, Em ma Lou and Helen, attended the funeral of "Uncle" Houston Dar nell at Benham last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Jenkins had as their guests Mrs. Hill and daughter, of Mount Airy, on Mon day. The revival which had been in progress at the Church of God closed last week. Mrs. Claude Mason and son. Creston, are confined to their home this week with "flu." Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Hart and daughter, Mary Frances, of North Wilkesboro. visited relatives here Sunday. Mrs. R. J. Martin and daugh ters, Grace and Betty, of Greens boro, visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rady Holcomb on Sun day afternoon. The friends and neighbors of Mr. Tommy Luffman presented him a Bible at their prayer meet ing at the home of Mr. Jenkins on Mineral Spring Hill on Sun day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. John Jester spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morma Day, near Boonville. Mr. and Mrs. Warner Vestal and daughter, Elizabeth Ann, Mr. S. M. Vestal and son, Rayner, of Bassett. Va., spent the week-end here with Mrs. S. M. Vestal. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Macy are the proud parents of a baby girl that the stork left them on Feb ruary 21. ' Mrs. Alice Jenkins had as her guest last week her daughter from Winston-Salem. Mrs Plinie Osborne and son, Wade, and Misses Pernie and Hattie Jenkins visited Mr. Boyd Couch at North Elkin on Monday. Mir. Dewey Helton was able to return to his home from Hugh Chatham Memorial hospital on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Claypools and Mrs, F. A. Lineberry spent Friday in Winston-Salem. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Holcomb and family were the dinner guests of the former's sister, Mrs. Rufus Castevens, and Mr. Castevens. on Sunday. Rev. Cleat Simmons will preach at the Arlington church next Sunday night at 7 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt ' Sparks spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. T. A. Steelman, near Yadkinville. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown and granddaughter, June Wells, visited Mrs. Brown's mother, Mrs. Sallie Greenwood, of Island Ford community, on Sunday. The Couch Quartette from Pleasant Hill will sing at the ev ening service at Arlington Bap tist church Sunday. The public is invited to attend. Aid* Grayson Y.W.A. Meets The Alda Grayson Y. W. A. of the Baptist church met at the church Tuesday evening. The program on "Prayer" was in charge of Miss Lorraine Line berry, assisted by a number of the members. During the business session one new member was enrolled. Intermediate Boys'. 8. S. Class Have Party The Intermediate boys' Sunday school class had a class party at the home of Leo Wagoner on Thursday evening, February 18, with 7 members present. Two contests were held and Billie Mcßride won the prizes. After an enjoyable evening re freshments were served. W.M.U. Observes Week of Prayer The Woman's Missionary soci ety of the Baptist church will ob serve the week of prayer on home missions beginning on Monday, February 27. through March 3, each evening at 7:30 o'clock. Elkin and Arlington W. M. U..'s will come and worship with this church. Mrs. Paul Price Davis will be the speaker on Monday evening and Tuesday and Thurs day nights Elkin W. M. U. will have a speaker. On Friday even ing the young people will have their program. Every member of these organizations are urged to be present. COOL SPRINGS The Cool Springs Sunday school dismissed early Sunday in order to attend the funeral service held for E. H. Darnell, a former mem ber of this class and at one time the choir director here. Prayer service was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Hol brook Saturday evening. Rev. Martin Luff man and Rev. J. D. Luffman, of Little Elkin, were visitors with us Sunday ev ening. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Harris spent the week-end in Salisbury, the guests of their daughter, Mrs. Boyd H. Linder, and Mr. Linder. Miss Raye Harris, who had spent two weeks with her sister, return ed home. Maynard Harris, also of Salisbury, came home Sunday. He returned to Salisbury Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Lauren Holbrook have moved to the Benham com munity. May they find as many good friends there as they leave here. Prayer service will be held at the home of L W. Casey Satur day evening. RONDA Mr. and Mrs. William Binkley and children, Joyce Lee and David, of Lewisville, were the Sunday guests of Mrs. Binkley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Martin. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Butts, ac companied by Miss Eletheer Bes ley, of Washington. D. C„ were the week-end guests of Mrs. Butt's parents. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Bur chette. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Edwards and Mrs. M. S. Pardue attended the "Holy Land Exhibit," in Charlotte Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Hendrix visited Mrs. Hendrix's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Blackwood, in Win ston-Salem Sunday. Mrs. Paul Welborne and sons, David and Curtiss, of North Wilkesboro, were the week-end guests of Mrs. Welborne's parents, Rev. and Mrs. D. J. White. Miss Lorraine Crater, of A. S. T. C. at Boone, spent the week end with her parents. Rev. and Mrs. R. R. Crater. Friends of Mrs. Beamer Jolly will be sorry to learn that her condition is somewhat worse. Mrs. Sidney Carter spent Wed nesday night with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff McNeill at Roaring River. Mrs. Robert Boger, of A. S. T. C. at Boone, spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. W. R Mcßride. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brewer and son, Jimmle, of North Wilkesboro, were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. White. Miss Grace Burchette spent Fri day night with Miss Claudia Keye. Mrs. A. M. Blackburn and Mrs. M. S. Pardue visited Mrs. Andrew Pardue, who is ill at her home, Monday afternoon, i Miss Dorothy Dimmette 1 s right 111 at this writing. We wish ,for her a speedy recovery. THURMOND I Born to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Norman, an 8-lb. baby boy at Hugh Chatham Memorial hospi tal, February 14. Mrs. Lillie Woodruff, of Win ston-Salem, is spending a few weeks with Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Simmons. Miss Irene Norman has been very ill for the past few days. We hope for her a speedy recovery. Little Junior Simmons was badly burned last week. We ex tend to him and his parents our most sincere sympathy. Miss Lillie Norman, of Elkin, spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Ella Norman. Mr. Burr Holcomb has been very ill for a few days. We hope he will soon be well again. Rev. J. P. Talbert will fill his regular appointment next Sun day, February 26, at 2:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Mrs. Addison Norman had as her week-end guests Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thomas, of Harmony. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Durham, of Elkin, and Ruth and Samuel Caudle, of Hamptc.. ille, visited Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Gentry last week. Miss Bessie Mke Norman, of Lomax. spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. J. A. Norman. Mr. Tyre Walker and family were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bynum Woodruff. We are glad to have the beau tiful spring-like days after so much rainy weather. People are planting gardens and burning plant beds preparing for another crop. The Sunday school at swan Creek had a red letter day last Sunday with an attendance of 169. We met for the first time in our beautiful new church. We feel we have one of the nicest church buildings in this part of the country and the members are grateful to everyone who has had any part in the building or giv ing or assisting in even the smallest way and we want to say to one and all, we thank you. Everyone in our community is cordially invited to come to the Sunday school. We are organiz ing some new classes so we have a place for all, both young and old. Lillian, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Columbus Hayes, was taken to a Statesville hospi tal last Sunday night with an abscess in her side. We wish her a speedy recovery. She is just recuperating from measles, and there are several more cases of measles in the Hayes home. Mr. and Mrs. Midas Hudson, of Hamptonvllle. visited in the home of Mrs. Hudson's parents. Mr, and Mrs. E. V. Southard. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Southard who will spend this week visiting in and around Hamptonvllle. Some of the folks from here attended the quartet singing at Bethel Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Eliza Sparks and rMldren spent the week-end with Mrs. Sparks' mother, Mrs. Man uel Pardue. at Ronda. Rev. swinney, of Burlington, spent last Thursday night visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Swaim spent the day Sunday visiting Mrs. Swaim's mother, Mrs. Sea graves, at Roaring River.
