"Oranges, bananas, cocoanuts and other fruits and candies for the holidays, at T. E, Walker's. Gaston Spurling of Cleveland county was here for a few days recently looking at some Polk, county farm lands under the guidance of J. F. Williams, our real estate and insurance agent. The organ committee of the Baptist church reported last Sun day that the fund for the new organ was about completed and that the organ would be installed within a short time. They hope to have it in time for the protrac ted meeting, the date of which has not been set. Rev. T. C. Croker told his con gregation at the Presbyterian church first Sunday that the debt upon the church had been remov ed and the dedication would take place shortly. He was anxious to have it during the Christmas holidays, but some of J;he mem bers thought it best to postpone the dedication until spring so the matter has not as yet been decided. POPLAR GROVE PEOPLE. Personals from the Green River Section. Poplar Grove, Dec. 2. Rev. J. D. Gibson preached an inter esting sermon at Lebanon last first Sunday. It was his first sermon on .the new conference year. He and . your correspond ent dined at Rev, W. W. Wom ack's that day. J erry Jackson is th e fond grand-parent of a baby girl. The little' lady's parents, V. Hyder and wife, are very proud of her. Miss Minnie Womack contem plates visiting her sister, Mrs. R. Hardin of Forest City. Coroner George Smith made a business trip to Columbus first Monday. . v A young man of our section went to The Springs Sunday "on business." Came back late, or rather, early and very hungry. He made a raid on the pantry and ate up a whole hog's head. Rev. J. E. Womack, who is at tending Rutherford College, says in a letter to his mother recent ly,; that Rev. Edwards, often spoken of as "Uncle" Edwards, who served this work several years ago,, has suffered a stroke 6f paralysis. The public school teacher at this place feels sure she will be successful in securing new seats for the school room. The seats will be presented b y a 1 1 the young men of the community and will cost the county nothing. We also hope to be able to place a rural library in our school. We are doing every thingwe can to make the jvork a, complete success. We wish the' other teachers "and pupils great suc cess and always remember them at the Throne of Grace at our morning service. We wish them a long and happy life. - - Our pastor, Rev. J. D. Gibson, and family are at home again, having attended annual confer ence. We welcome him among us. They have won many friends in Polk county who appreciate having them stay another year. We wish them health, happiness and success. . Stearns cf the Mimo sa Hotel Other Personal Notes. Lynn, N. C, Dec. 12. Mrs. Mary B. Stearns of the Mimosa Hotel, one of the heirs of French estate, and G. H. Gra ha m , a well-known Charlotte man were quietly married in the Mimosa Hotel yesterday at noon in the presence of a fewvguests and the immediate relatives, by Rev. E. N. Joyner of tryon. Mrs. Graham is well-known to the Tryon and Lynn people as she has resided here for several years altho' from Ohio. W. A. Cannon is located in his new store. He will carry only light groceries and intends doing a cash business. Will Newman and Miss Ollie Fowler, both of Lynn, were mar ried Wednesday evening at the home of R. F; Fowler.
