Church bells ring, the homes in this historic town display creative decorations 01 yesteryear, candles twinkle from windows to welcome all, and the people renew again the true meaning of the season. The Twelve Days of Christmas in Historic Kenansville is a series of activities and events that capture the unity and spirit of a community with all age groups in mind. Come help us celebrate! All events are free unless otherwise indicated Entertainment Prior To The Twelve Days Of Christmas Thursday, December 1 Two fresh greenery workshops for making your own Christmas wreaths. Agricultural Extension Building, 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday, December 12 A CLOWN'S CHRISTMAS. Christmas themes, and family togetherness are incorporated with mime, clowning and audience participation. The Clown Conspiracy, Joe Killian and Michael Zerphy of New York, create a Christmas atmosphere at the Kenans ville Elementary School multipurpose room, 7:30 p.m. The Twelve Days Of Christmas In Historic Kenansville 1983 Wednesday, December 14 The Twelve Days of Christmas officially begins with church bells and chimes ringing in the holiday season. Lighting of the community Christmas tree at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Park followed by a bonfire, caroling and hayride. Refreshments. Grove Presbyterian Church. 8 p.m. Thursday , December 15 The James Kenan District Band, under the direction of Tom Newman, and the James Kenan District Chorus, under the direction of Mclanie Morgan, will present a musical program at Kenan Memorial Auditorium. 8 p.m. Friday . December 16 The East Duplin High School Masqueraders present "Joy!" a rock musical about the first Christmas. The Masqueraders are under the direction of Wanda Brown. Performance in the old Kenansville Elementary School auditorium. 7:30 p.m. A small admission will be charged to cover play royalties. The North Carolina 3rd Battalion sets up camp in authentic Civil War gear including uniforms, rifles, tents and cannons. Available all weekend for tours and demonstrations. Campsite across from Liberty Hall. 1 Saturday, December 17 i Living history with Civil War soldiers in authentic dress camped in front of Liberty Hall. The North Carolina 3rd Battalion will be ir, Kenansville through Sunday. Visits welcomed all weekend. Sunday, December 18 Liberty Hall open house 2-6 p.m. The historic southern home will be decorated for the Yuletide Season in the period of the early 1800s. The North Carolina 3rd Battalion will perform 'guard duty' for the Liberty Hall open house. Refreshments. Cowan Museum Open House 2-6 p.m. Special lunches available at the Graham House Inn and the Country Squire. Charge for meals. Monday, December 19 "Sounds of Christmas" by the Sounds of Music of Wallace. Selections of light, happy songs associated with the holiday season will be performed by the Sounds of Music at the Kenansville Baptist Church, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 20 An "Evening of Christmas Carols" by John Goodnow, visiting artist at James Sprunt Technical College. Traditional carols and sing-a-longs at the Kenansville Baptist Church. 7:30 p.m. Wednesday , December 21 Community Christmas covered-dish supper at the Kenansville Elementary School cafeteria. 6:30 p.m. Share your picnic basket and favorite dishes with the community. Movie Magic, an hour of films for children of all ages at the Kenansville Elementary School. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 22 Slide and picture presentation on the art of John White at the Kenansville United Methodist Church. 7:30 p.m. Joe Webb. Director of Social Studies. Department of Public .Instruction, and Jim Fugate. Social Studies instructor at Trexler Junior High School in Richlands. present White's early drawings and sketches of the building of Elizabeth II. Friday, December 23 Merchants' open house. Area merchants will open until 9 p.m. offering special prices for late shoppers. And. Santa Claus will bq downtown for the children. Saturday', December 24 Christmas Eve celebration with a combined com munity church service at Grove Presbyterian Church, 7:30 p.m. Jim Harris, pastor of the Kenansville United Methodist Church, will be the speaker. Sunday, December 25 Christmas Day. Family Activities.
