Wilkins Operates Pontiac Dealership Eric Wilkins has taken over the Pontiac automobile dealership in Warsaw. The dealership was opened by D.J. Rivenbark, who owned it for 35 years. Wilkins said he believes there is only one other auto mobile dealership owned by a black in North Carolina ? a Buick-Cadillac dealership in Reidsville. A native of the area, Eric Wilkins is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Riddick E. Wilkins of Warsaw. His father is a retired Duplin County agri cultural extension agent who now is a member of the county Board of Education. Eric Wilkins came back to Duplin County from South field, Mich., a suburb of Detroit. In Michigan he was a district representative for the Pontiac division of General Motors Corp. He is a graduate of Howard University in, Wash ington, D.C. Although a Duplin native, he attended high school in Roper because he wanted to plav football. At the time, the segregated black school in Warsaw did not have a football program. "1 returned home because it is home and because 1 think North Carolina offers more growth opportunity than where I was," Eric Wilkins said. "I don't think color will have any bearing on the business here. People who are going to buy a car will get what they want. We'll give good service, which is one thing car buyers , really want."
