County Democratic Convention on
Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m., Bobbie
Marshburn, county chairman, an
nounced. The convention will be held
at Kenansville Courthouse.
Commissioner Graham began his
career as an agriculture teacher in
Iridell County and later served as
superintendent of Upper Mountain
Research Farm, manager of Win
ston-Salem Fair first full-time sec
retary of the N.C. Hereford Breeders
Association, and manager of the
Farmers' Market in Raleigh. He
served as president of the National
Association of Market Managers and
the Southern Association of State
Departments of Agriculture.
By legislation, Graham is the
chairman of the N.C. Board of
Agriculture. He serves on numerous
boards and committees relating to
the duties of commissioner and the
N.C. Department of Agriculture.
The Commissioner of Agriculture
is a member of the Council of State,
the top decision-making body in the
executive branch of state govern
ment.
Heading the convention's agenda
will be the election of delegates to
the district and state conventions
and the consideration of the number
of resolutions.
"The county convention is an
important link in the series of
Democratic conventions leading
from the precinct up to the national
convention," Marshburn noted.
"We hope to elect strong repre
sentatives for Duplin County at tht
district and state conventions ana to
debate key issues facing the county,
state and nation."
Fund Drive Contributors
Are Matchmakers
"The First contributors to the
Duplin County Arts Council Fund
Drive have been an answer to a
challenge to us," reports Merle
Creerh. executive director of DCAC,
"and most of them didn't even
know they were helping so greatly.
We appreciate the help and support
? and now the Foundation which
challenged us can respond and help
our programming budget for next
vear climb."
The Duplin County Arts Council is
a non-profit agency which is
managed by an executive director
who is a county employee. Con
tributions collected during the
annual fund drive, therefore, are
used directly for programming in
schools, for clubs, for all kinds of
groups of people throughout Duplin
County.
The challenge of which Creech
spoke was proposed by a prival
foundation recently for a $1,500
contribution once the same amount
had been raised locally. The goal of
this vear's drive is $12,000.
