' ' : : Beaufort natives who love "the eld town" pretty much as it is and look askance at those who Would "modernize" could chalk up another testimonial to their point Of view this week. Van Potter, ex-Beaufort, before he was ex-New Tork dweller, said his piece in favor of "keeping it that way" at Rotary meeting Tues day night. Recognized as a guest by the chair, Mr. Potter, who retired and came to live in Beaufort last May, said that he left here with his family at the age of 16. "No one ever left Beaufort with more re luctance than I," he said. Remarking that little has changed since he left, except per haps for some street improvements and more paint on the houses, Mr. Potter reminisced: "It was quaint a little bit of Old England and I am grateful to you for keeping it that way."
