Weiland and children have returned home after spend ing several weeks in Quantico, Va., and Roanoke Rapids. Mrs. Robert Willis and Mrs. Tall aksen, of Davis, are visiting Mrs. Linwood Styron. Mrs. Elvin L. Styron and child ren, of Davis, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Styron. Mrs. Iona Ballou and Miss Patsy Ballou spent Thursday in New Bern. Mrs. James D. Hatcher, of Mount Olive, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. K. P. B. Bonner and Dr. Bonner. S. M. Simmons, of Charlotte was a visitor here this week. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Moore, of Ra leigh, spent last weekend here. Mrs. Quincy Stimpson and daughter, Sharon, returned Mon day from a week's visit in Charlotte. Gerald Phillips attended the Jay cces convention in Raleigh last week end. Mrs. Skinner Chalk and two children, John and Skinner, HI, returned home Monday after spending a week with relatives in Spartanburg, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Rogers, of Raleigh, spent the weekend with their son, R. J. Rogers and family. Friends of Mrs. Ethan Davis will be glad to learn that she is improv ing after a recent illness: Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Lucas, Jr., of Rocky Mount were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Lucas. Mrs. L. H. Lucas, Sr., accompanied them back to Scotland Neck after having visited her son and family for the past six weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Nick Galantis and daughter returned this week from a visit with his parents in Youngs town, Ohio. Bruce Goodwin attended the Jaycees convention last week end in Raleigh. Jack Stall ings and Cecil Adams attended fall dances at Flora Mc Donald College this weekend. Miscellaneous Shower Given for Mr. & Mrs. Wade ft i r itr T Laughton, J. G. Bennett and-Mi.s Ef fie Willis were hostesses last Fri: day evening at a miscellaneous shower complimenting Mr. and Mrs. Ralph T. Wade. The party was given in the Webb Memorial Civic Center at 7:30 p.m. A beautiful yellow and white color scheme was carried, out throughout the club rooms and re-, freshments were served from a table covered with an Italian cut work cloth centered with the punch bowl and surrounded by white chrysanthemums flanked with white tapers in silver candle sticks. The refreshments of punch and cake with salted nuts were served by Miss Edith Broadway and Mrs. Sam Adlcr. During the evening Mrs. Wade rendered a lovely solo and Mr. Wade entertained with two selec tions on the trombone. - Two tables laden with attractive sifts were brought in and placed . before Mr. and Mrs. Wade who graciously thanked each guest as they opened their gift The hostesses presented the guests of honor with a lovely pic ture and the school faculty's gift was silver candleholders. Robert Lowe Speaks At Literary and Art Meeting Mr. Robert Lowe, executive sec retary of the local chamber of commerce, spoke on the industrial possibilities of Morehead City at the regular meeting of the Liter ary and Art Club Tuesday evening. Mr. Lowe pointed out the many potentialities of our, community and how the club members could help to develop them. Two new members, Mrs. Earl Mobley and Mrs. Ruth Oglcsby were welcomed to the club and Mrs. Robert Lowe was a guest for the evening. During the business session final plans for the cooking school which was held Wednesday after noon, were made and the high school home economics class was invited to be guests of the club at the school. The hostesses, Mrs. J. C. Taylor, Mrs. R. W. Taylor, Mrs. W. C. Mat thews and Mrs. W. L. Derrickson, served strawberry short cake with nuts and mints during the social hour. Capacity Crowd Attends Electric Cooking School Business Women to Attend Meeting at Southern Pines Mrs. Marshall M. Ayscuc, presi dent of the Carteret Business and Professional Women's club, and Miss Ruth Peeling, secretary, will attend the annual mid-year council meeting of the North Carolina Fed eration of Business and Profession al Women's clubs at Southern Pines this weekend. The sessions, to be held in the Hollywood hotel, will begin tomor row morning and continue until Sunday afternoon. "Delivering the address at tomor row night's banquet will be Mrs. Sue Ramsay Ferguson, Taylors ville, former State senator. Presid ing at the meetings will be Mrs. Kathryn Shipman, High Point, pre sident of the North Carolina fed eration. Mrs. Willie S. Johnson, president of the Clinton Business and Pro fessional Women's club, and sister of Mrs. Ayscue, will preside at the luncheon at 12:30 tomorrow. A capacity crowd packed the Carteret County Recreation center social hall for the Tide Water Power company cooking school Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Luther G. Johnson, whose office is in Wil mington, conducted the school and was assisted by Miss Carolyn Knight, home economist of the N"w Bern district, and Miss Ethel Hunnicutt, of the Whiteville dis trict. Three complete meals were pre pared during the afternoon: an oven meal consisting of Spanish meal loaf with steamed rice, car rots, bran bread and upside down cake; a cooker meal of savory pot roast, steamed carrots, browned potatoes, onions and spicy oatmeal pudding; and a broiler menu of lamb chops, grilled tomato halves, sliced pineapple and broiled pota toes. Mrs. Johnson prepared these meals in a minimum of time and gave some valuable hints on the use of electrical appliances how to get the maximum results with minimum effort. Leslie Davis, oatmeal pud ding; Mrs. John Bridgeman, Spa nish meat loaf; Mrs. Alvin Garner congealed salad; Mrs. C. N. Ben nett, upside down cake and car rots; and Miss Mamie Goodwin, pot roast. An electric mixmaster was won by Mrs. Robert Tillett, of Beaufort, and the Westinghouse electric range went to Mrs. Mar jorie Oglesby of Morehead City. All prizes were given by the Tide Water Power company. The Literary and Art club sponsored the school. Proceeds will be di vided between the Carteret County Teen-Age club and the Literary and Art club. f f m . I.
