Presbyterians Schedule
Bible School Exercises
The daily vacation Bible school
of the Presbyterian church will
have closing exercises tonight at 7
p.m. A short program will be fol
lowed by the presentation of certi
ficates. Parents and children are
invited.
The school has been under the
direction of Mrs. Dorothy Lewis
Guthrie and 89 were registered
during this week.
Gurganus - Guthrie
Married Saturday evening in the
Franklin Memorial Methodist par
sonage. Morehad City, were Miss
Clara B. Guthrie and Clifton W.
Gurganus of Beaufort.
Miss Guthrie is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Guthrie and the
groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
R. C. Gurganus. Th Rev. A. L.
Reynolds officiated.
The ceremony was performed at
the same time the Basden sisters
of Beaufort were married by Mr.
Reynolds.
Mrs. Roy Hamilton Honors
Mrs. Maxine Guthrie Davis
Mrs. Maxine Guthrie Davis, who
is to be married June 17 to O. J.
Morrow, was honored at a buffet
dinner party Wednesday, June 4,
given by Mrs. Roy Hamilton of
Beaufort. Fifteen couples were
present.
A table was decorated with a
miniature bridal party dressed in
the color scheme of Mrs. Davis'
wedding, blue and yellow. The
table was laden with gardenias and
lighted tapers in the background.
The house was decorated with
blue and white hydrangeas and
gardenias. Mrs. Davis was given a
pink carnation corsage by the
hostage.
The dinner consisted of baked
ham, string beans, yams, hot rolls
and relishes. Blue cake with yel
low ice cream and iced tea were
served. After dinner pictures were
taken of each couple. The women
dressed in bridal veils and carried
flowers for the pictures.
Mrs. Ann Willis Jones,
John Gillikin Wed Saturday
Mrs. Ann Willis Jones, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Willis and
Mr. John Gillikin. formerly of
Beaufort, now of Havelock, were
united in marriage Saturday after
noon at 1 o'clock in the Free Will
Baptist church. The Rev. T. C.
Smith officiated in the double ring
ceremony.
The ceremony was performed
before an altar banked with white
gladioli. Miss Mary Emma Kirk
man, organist, presented a program
of nuptial music before the cere
mony.
The bride, who entered the
church with her only attendant.
Mrs. R. G. Willis, was attired in a
light blue nylon dress with white
accessories. She had a corsage of
red roses. Mrs. Willis was dressed
in a silk print and had white car
nations.
Best man for the groom was Wil
liam Thomas of Beaufort. The
couple left immediately following
the ceremony for a two-week trip
to the western part of the state.
Upon their return they will be at
home in Havelock.
The bride, who is a graduate of
the Morehead City high school and
commercial course, has been em
ployed in the public works depart
ment at Cherry Point for 10 years.
The groom, a veteran of the Air
Force in world war II, is also em
ployed at Cherry Point.
The pair were entertained at a
cake cutting Friday night at the
home of Mrs. Charles Conway, sis
ter of the bride.

Nuptial Vows

They wore orchids.
The couple went on a wedding
trip to the western part of the state
and upon their return will be at
home in Morehead City. The bride
is a graduate of Morehead City
high school and th* post graduate
commercial course. The groom
also was graduated from high
school here and attended East
Carolina college In Greenville. He
is now employed by the B&M Rail
road company as an accountant.
Immediately following the cere
mony a reception was held at the
home of the bride. Mrs. Morton
Davis, aunt of the bride, greeted
guests at the door; Miss Peggy
Leary presided at the bride's bqok.
The Misses Corinne Bell Webb
and Ann Darden Webb were in
charge of the gift room. Servr
punch was Mrs. S. A. Horton a..d
Mrs. Waldron Bailey, III, and Miss
Patricia Willis cut the cake. Good
byes were said by Mrs. Herbert
Thornton.

Riggs Family Meets June 1
For Reunion at 1806 Fisher
A family reunion was held Sun
day, June 1, at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Elmer K. Riggs, 1806
Fisher street, Morehead City.
Attending were: Mr. Riggs, his
five brothers and their families. It
was three years since all six bro
thers were together. Those who at
tended the reunion and enjoyed a
picnic dinner were as follows:

who died 16 years ago, his wife Lu

Mrs. Wiliam Kinard of Pearl River,
N. Y. Corporal Kinard is a Marine
stationed at Cherry Point.
Those unable to attend were
Kenneth Neil Riggs, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Elmer Riggs, who is serving
on the USS Iowa with the Navy
somewhere in Korean waters; al
so Rose Riggs wife of Robert Riggs,
who was in the hospital at the time.
It was proposed that there be a
reunion each year at different
homes.
Virginia Lowe enjoyed the week
end in Morehead City with her par
ents and brother and plans to
spend a couple of weeks here in
July.
