Beaufort Social News Mrs. Loekwood Phillips, Society Editor Mrs J. P. Decs and daughter, Margaret, spent Friday and Satur day in Aurora. Mrs T. T Potter, Miss Ada Whitehurst, Miss Ethel WhftMurst and Miss Mildred Whitehurst spent Sunday in Wilmington. Mr. and Mrs Jerry Darling and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Brock left last week for a two week's visit in Pelham, Ga . and Chipley, Via. Mrs. Leland Peterson is ill at home. Mrs. Leonard Safrit drove her two children to Wilmington Fri day for a medical check up at Dr. Sidbury's Baby Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Lewis and son returned home Sunday from a 10 day visit in Florida. Mr. James Buckets returned to Portsmouth Island Sunday after a visit with Miss Mattie Duncan. Mrs. W. L. Rudder left Saturday for Nathalie, Va., where she was called by the serious illness of her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mason and son. Randy, and Mr. Dewey Brad ley left Sunday for Durham after a weekend visit with Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Turnage. Mrs. Bob Slater and baby daugh ter, Helen, returned home yester day from Wrightsville Beach where Helen had been receiving treatment at Dr. Sidbury's Baby Hospital. Mrs. J. B. Moore of Stfaten Island, N. Y., arrived Sunday for a visit with her son, Dr. W. L. Rudder. Mrs. Phil Thomas returned home Saturday from a two months' visit in Florida, Louisiana and Texas. Baptist Brotherhood Meets at Church Friday The Brotherhood of the First Baptist Church, Beaufort, met Fri day evening at the church. Osborne Davis, president, presid ed and plans were discussed for further support of Boy Scout Troop 101, which is sponsored by the church. The men considered also the possibility of establishing a cub Scout pack. During the meeting Milton' LSughton was confirmed as as sistant scout leader. Carl Chad wick is leader of the troop. Sammy Magill spent the weekend in New Bern and Raleigh. Mrs. Will Norcum of Columbia is visiting her daughter and son in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Julian Ham ilton. Gardner, Jacksonville, resented a review of the book, desire, by Ann Marie Selinko at the 'ebruary meeting of the Beaufort look Club Thursday night at the nlet Inn. Mrs. Gardner is a past istrict president of the Federated Voman's Clubs of North Carolina. She was introduced by Mrs. M. .eslie Davis, program chairman. The book Club will sponsor Miss Jdna Frances Young as their can lidate in the state-wide music con est this spring. The contest is ponsored by the State Federation f Woman's Clubs. Mrs. Paul Russell reported that the table and chairs purchased by the club for the Carteret County Public Library have been put in^ the library. Club members placed their sig natures on the Freedom Scroll. Sup port of Radio Free Europe is re quested by the national federation president. The move is backed j by President Eis^nhqwer who has expressed the hope that the scroll will contain 25 million signatures. Persons who wish may contribute a "Truth Dollar" which will pay for 100 words to be conveyed by radio behind the Iron Curtain. The club contributed $10 to the March of Dimes and Mrs. D. F. Merrill, president appointed a nominating committee. On the committee are Mrs. W. I. Loftin, Mrs. E. L. Davis and Mrs. N. F Eure. Officers will be elected in March and installed in June.
